How the RNA vaccines activate the innate immune response & prime the adaptive response was one of the most frequent questions I got in 2020/2021.

"We discuss innate immune sensing of mRNA vaccines at the cellular and intracellular levels and consider the contribution of both the mRNA and the LNP components to their immunogenicity. A key message that is emerging from recent observations is that the LNP carrier acts as a powerful adjuvant for this novel vaccine platform"

That's quite an opening:

"Defective host defenses later in life are associated with changes in immune system activity. The means to correct immune defects to ensure immunity in the elderly are undefined. In this study, we found that CD8+ T cells, which are necessary for anti-tumor immunity in young mice, are not required to eradicate the same cancers later in life."

Early on in the #monkeypox outbreak, there were so few deaths it seemed hard to square with the death rates from historically endemic countries. It is still true deaths have been lower in countries with access to MPX drugs & vaccines. But they had inched up. The 110 countries that have had reported nearly 80,000 cases this year have logged 44 deaths.

"Using an RNA FISH-Flow HIV-1 reactivation assay, we demonstrate that SLFN12 expression is enriched in infected cells positive for HIV-1 transcripts but negative for HIV-1 proteins. Thus, codon-usage dependent translation inhibition of HIV-1 proteins participates in HIV-1 latency and can restrict the amount of virus release after latency reversal."

Just a reminder about Mastodon.

Try not to directly upload videos here.
You have to remember that these videos have to be stored on the server that you're hosted on.

This would also eat up on available bandwidth, storage and memory resources of said servers and slow them down. Which would force server hosts to upgrade at a substantial cost.

Suggested idea...

Upload to YouTube, Vimeo or other video streaming services and share the link to the video here instead.

Modeling study using pandemic data from 152 countries

"Although the focus of this work is retrospective, considering the merits and consequences of a more equitable sharing of vaccine between nations, conclusions can be drawn about national and international policies going forward. The message for any emerging outbreak is clear: distributing vaccines across the globe proportional to need, rather than to wealth, will have beneficial effects for all."

"While humans have been infected by birds, they are usually workers on poultry farms and those in close contact with infected birds, and even these instances have been rare. For example, on 3 November, two farm workers in Spain tested positive; it was the second known infection of humans in Europe since 2003."
