I'm teaching a course on Experimental Design in #Biomedical #Research, and I like to start with the discussion of a short paper, pretending to be a scientific article but isn't (it draws conclusion with no actual data). The thing is that's a bit too obvious, so students tend to pick up the deception. Can anyone direct on a not so obvious yet false scientific paper? I'd appreciate it. #science #ExperimentalDesign #experiment
'Miles de personas han llegado la noche de este lunes al Estadio Nacional de Chile, el mayor centro de detención y tortura que existió durante la dictadura de Augusto Pinochet (1973-1990), para rendir homenaje a Salvador Allende y las víctimas del régimen autoritario.'
A Dutch art detective has recovered a precious Vincent van Gogh painting.
The precious 1884 painting was stolen from the Singer Museum in Laren near Amsterdam in March 2020, when the museum was closed during a Covid-19 lockdown.

'Dos fármacos contra la obesidad, Ozempic y Wegovy, han conjurado el fantasma de la recesión en Dinamarca. El primero se usa habitualmente para el tratamiento de la diabetes, pero su empleo para la obesidad ha crecido exponencialmente en los últimos meses; el segundo es específico frente a esta dolencia, que ya afecta a más de 650 millones de personas en todo el mundo.'
Well, well, well ... Bureaucrats in Poland's "anti-immigrant" nationalist ruling party, the same one ostentatiously building walls on the border, are suspected of selling visas, and thus bringing more than 200,000 non-Europeans into Poland last year....

'While nine out of 10 cancers affect people over 50, the authors of another new study believe tobacco, diet and alcohol are among the causes of the increase in cancer diagnoses in people under 50 worldwide. Cancer‑linked deaths of adults in their 40s or younger grew by 27% between 1990 and 2019.'

'The civilian and military conspiracy to overthrow Mr. Allende’s government, aided by C.I.A. financing and covert operations to destabilize the country, culminated in a bloody coup, the likes of which Chileans, unlike people in other Latin American countries, had never experienced.'

The germ deniers. Great highlight, with Dr Dan Wilson! @debunk_the_funk
Conspiracy theories about viruses and vaccines have exploded in recent years. At the same time, something even stranger has emerged, those who don’t believe in germs at all.

"Fifty years ago on Monday, a violent coup ended one of Latin America’s most stable democracies, brought an abrupt halt to the Chilean military’s tradition of noninvolvement in politics and ushered in 17 years of ruthless dictatorship."

'Olson forced out the president of the local Catholic Charities because that president had organized a women’s empowerment summit—something Olson thought was “aligned with the principles of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion,” which, in his view, “are most truly hostile to the principles of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.”
'Although private equity’s foray into book publishing is new, funds have been buying up news publications for the past decade. When they do, they tend to lay off reporters and editors, cut back on print editions, and invest less in the resources necessary for great journalism.'
