The GOP is out to undo the most positive contribution of any republican president in my lifetime.

"In 2003, nearly 30 million Africans had AIDS, including 3 million under the age of 15. In some countries, more than one-third of the adult population carried the disease. More than 4 million required immediate drug treatment, yet only 50,000 AIDS victims were receiving the medicine they needed."

There's not & never has been a single public square. There are always public squares, plural. Yes, the internet & technology in general fall sway to winner-take-all dynamics. But we cannot allow our connectivity, info flow & communities to fall hostage to the whims of a malevolent idiot. #Mastodon #BlueSky #birdsite #Twitter #Threads

Phenominal talk from Thibaut Brunet, streamed to us in Oxford from the the #EDBC2023 Paris Hub.

'Discussions now taking place at the World Health Organization seek to reach consensus on a new pandemic agreement. The intention is to learn from mistakes made during Covid-19 to better prepare for the future. Unfortunately, a key intellectual property problem remains unaddressed, threatening to limit the scope of what the agreement can achieve in assuring timely and equitable access to pandemic countermeasures.'

After moving to the neuromatch.social instance, it is time for a new introduction!

I am a biologist and a neuroscientist. I got a PhD in systems ##neuroscience in the Portugues lab. I have been working with larval zebrafish, where we described a mesmerising circuit encoding heading direction (doi.org/10.1101/2022.04.27.489). I recently moved to the lab of Giuliano Iurilli at IIT (Italy) to follow up in mice my interest in subcortical circuits for naturalistic behavior. I'm a fan of #openscience, #Python, #DIY setups crackpot theories and unconventional paradigms. Sometimes I rant about journals, but I mostly revel in cool (neuro)science!

To migrate efficiently, neutrophils must polarize their cytoskeletal regulators along a single axis of motion. @JasonPTown & @OWeinerLab use spatially-defined #optogenetic control of a leading edge organizer to explore how #neutrophil-like cells balance “decisiveness” (needed to polarize in one direction) with flexibility (to respond to new cues) #PLOSBiology plos.io/3ZAldnx
