Edward Emerson Barnard is first to discover a comet by photographic means #OTD in 1892.
In 1892 Barnard made observations of a nova and was the first to notice the gaseous emissions, thus deducing that it was a stellar explosion. The same year he also discovered Amalthea, the fifth moon of Jupiter. He was the first to discover a new moon of Jupiter since Galileo Galilei in 1609. This was the last satellite discovered by visual observation. via @wikipedia

If you have an existing blog, just jump to the Settings >>> Discussion step.
Be aware that what gets rendered to Mastodon is somewhat limited. For instance if you have images in your post it may not be what you want.
@mastodonmigration @mastodonmigration.wordpress.com agree this is an excellent feature and also it's supremely easy to implement for any existing blog.
One thing I can't figure out (and may not be possible) is how to edit how the bio of the blog account displays on Mastodon. I'm going to screenshot yours to indicate what I mean.
I appreciate the handle can't be changed for a free Wordpress account, but how do I change the logo & can I add a description?
So this is very very cool!
By now you may have heard that Wordpress blogs can attach to Mastodon. Yesterday Wordpress announced that ALL accounts can enable an ActivityPub interface to the Fediverse.

1. “Imagine we land a space probe on one of Jupiters’ moons, take up a sample of material, and find it is full of organic molecules. How can we tell whether those molecules are just randomly assembled goo or the outcome of some evolutionary process taking place on the planet?”
@richardsever The need for new forms of research credit/assessment beyond the journal article are a frequent topic in our discussions on the EMBO Podcast, most recently in the episode with Pavel Tomancak
"Educating doctors is a long and expensive process, but not every country can reward its graduates equally. Health spending per capita varies drastically in EU countries, from €816 per year in Romania to more than €4,000 in Luxembourg, Germany and other Western European countries. And so doctors and nurses follow the money."
Once more unto the breach, Richard @richardsever
"Addiction to journal brand and Impact Factor has led us to conflate quality, impact, and trust in research. We now have the opportunity to adopt a new approach with better trust signals, in which judgments of an article’s merits are not made at a single point in time"

"The first referee systems that we would recognize as such were set in place by English scientific societies in the early nineteenth century. But these referees were never intended to play the part of supreme scientific gatekeepers. That notion emerged in around 1900 (see 'Past notes'). It was exactly then that some began to wonder whether referee systems might be fundamentally flawed. In this sense, peer review has always been broken."
"Highlighting the role of repeated immune responses, our results confirm the role of REL in the germinal center reaction and provide evidence supporting the fact that genetic deregulation of c-Rel expression is most likely a primary event in the aggressive transformation of GC B-cells."

"But for all that progress, a disparity is emerging: Women between the ages of 35 and 54 are being diagnosed with lung cancer at higher rates than men in that same age group, according to a report published Thursday by researchers at the American Cancer Society. The disparity is small — one or two more cases among every 100,000 women in that age range than among men — but it is significant enough that researchers want to know more."

@cyrilpedia At our university, in our state, in the U.S., committees are strictly forbidden to rank applicants on anything beyond what is specified in the job ad. I think this has become standard practice. Knowing this may be critical to developing your application materials. It's certainly maddening to the committee to have to dig for this information.

There's a line in Michael Herr's "dispatches" about how every Vietnamese person killed by the Americans was assumed (by the Americans) to be a member of the Viet Cong. It goes something like "by the time the statistics had reached command, a dead old woman had become a nameless, ageless, genderless insurgent."
This is how first world nations fight asymmetric wars. The propaganda exists at every level, throughout the entire system.
