"Drugs that originate from public health organizations in Brazil or India are often different in key ways from ones developed by a pharmaceutical company in an industrialized country, Dr. Kratz said: The scientists creating them think about access from the start, knowing that whatever they design will have to be delivered by a low-resource health system."
"The Journal’s historical commentaries about Indigenous Americans reveal more about authors’ and editors’ values and priorities than about Indigenous communities themselves. Such racist discourse reflected, perpetuated, and legitimated settler-colonists’ faith in the righteousness of their mission. It’s essential that readers understand these dynamics if they are to recognize and repudiate similar processes at work today."

'It’s a reality that has become increasingly common for young people as unpaid internships boom across much of the world. But in the EU – where the parliament has repeatedly described unpaid internships as a “form of exploitation of young workers and a violation of their rights” – relief may soon be on the way.'
Based on feedback from reviewers, @RongNi and I have revised our paper 'To Preprint or Not to Preprint: A Global Researcher Survey' https://doi.org/10.31235/osf.io/k7reb. While the changes are relatively minor, we believe they have led to valuable improvements of our work.
We are grateful to the anonymous reviewers of the Journal of the Association for Information Science and Technology #JASIST and the non-anonymous reviewers of the @ASAPbio Meta-Research Crowd https://prereview.org/reviews/8275863.

There's this cult of billionaire competence that extends even to their critics. I regularly see people saying that Musk's destruction of Twitter must have been intentional, that he and his rich backers were trying to ruin it. Nope! Musk's just an out-of-control narcissist who's not half as bright as he thinks.
Excellent post debunking a really dubious study the NYT and other media covered. This is why it's so crucial to have journalists who actually understand the nuances of these platforms covering them https://matzko.substack.com/p/lies-damned-lies-and-statistics-a

"Multiple classes of drugs were found to induce nucleolar stress, including DNA intercalators, inhibitors of mTOR/PI3K, heat shock proteins, proteasome, and cyclin-dependent kinases (CDKs). Each class of drugs induced morphologically and molecularly distinct states of nucleolar stress accompanied by changes in nucleolar biophysical properties"

"We sought to utilize a pathogenic human JAK1 GoF variant to probe the precise tissue-intrinsic mechanisms by which JAK1 signaling orchestrates various allergic pathologies. To do this, we generated a mouse line in which the endogenous murine Jak1 gene was replaced with a human JAK1 GoF mutation (JAK1GoF mice) that was reported in 2017."

The Mongol Hordes: They’re Just Like Us
Roughly seventy per cent of us have some Yamnaya ancestry in our DNA. More than the Greeks, the Romans, or the Chinese, it’s the nomadic Yamnaya whose legacy survives in our words and our bodies.
