'As the Norwegian historian Camilla Mørk Røstvik notes in Cash Flow, the “menstrual economy” is booming, expected to reach $27.7 billion by 2025.

Cash Flow describes the rise of this industry through a series of case studies from 1945 to the present, showing how the development and marketing of various menstrual products has at times catalyzed, at other times mirrored, seismic economic and cultural shifts around the world.'

I have the wonderful privilege of giving interactive art museum tours to young kids. The other day I asked a quiet 2nd grader who was enthralled by a Dorothea Lange photo from the Great Depression what he thought was going on in the photo. His interpretation was thoughtful and perceptive. After praising his response he came back with “my grandma taught me to look for the secrets in art.” Yay for grandmothers!

“You’d never have an ambulance sitting in normal 3 p.m. traffic,” said @macroliter a virologist at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center Shreveport. Referring to the coronavirus code from 2019, he said, “Why would you allow this sequence to sit there under the same process as a sequence I just got from a new snail species I found in a ravine?”

Scientists: We need to reduce emissions by 5.3% in 2024 to keep in line with a below 2°C pathway!

🌐 response:🖕

> Oil demand growth is projected to ease from 2.3 mb/d in 2023 to 1.2 mb/d in 2024

> Oil supply to rise by 1.5 mb/d to a new high of 103.5 mb/d, fuelled by record-setting output from the US, Brazil, Guyana and Canada.

So we will miss the 2024 target as we have missed all the other targets before it.

'As a result, scientists have begun planning an Arctic monitoring network that would pinpoint early cases of a disease caused by ancient micro-organisms. Additionally, it would provide quarantine and expert medical treatment for infected people in a bid to contain an outbreak, and prevent infected people from leaving the region.'

"long Covid symptoms cut across demographic groups, with only about a third of those with long Covid identifying as white. In a clinical setting, however, Viswanathan says roughly 80% of the patients seeking treatment for long Covid are white. #longCovid is exacerbating the inequities that the Covid pandemic exposed"

'In both mice and rats, env and gag-pol read values were highly correlated across conditions. In contrast, in P. leucopus the magnitudes of fold-change upwards for gag-pol was less than in mice or rats, & transcription of the env sequence was actually lower in LPS-treated animals than in controls.'

'In 2019, new information emerged relating to Julien’s stay in the Ndola hospital, provided by the government of Zimbabwe to the current U.N. inquiry. This fresh information reveals that the Rhodesian authorities actively sought to prevent Julien’s statements about the flight and the crash from being made public. A senior Rhodesian intelligence official instructed Julien’s medical superintendent that “no one of his hospital staff must talk about this,” in relation to Julien’s statements that he had seen sparks in the sky. The superintendent and another doctor were warned about “the security angle” and asked “to make sure that none of their staff talked.”'

"But where the drop in severe-COVID incidence is clear and prominent, the drop in long-COVID cases is neither as certain nor as significant. Plenty of new cases of the chronic condition are still appearing with each passing wave—even as millions of people who developed it in years past continue to suffer its long-term effects."

'In 1550, the so-called “father of art history” Giorgio Vasari recorded that “since Botticelli was a learned man, he wrote a commentary on part of Dante’s poem, and after illustrating the Inferno, he printed the work.” The painter also made a portrait of Dante, Vasari tells us, and drew sketches for engravings in the first Florentine edition of The Divine Comedy in 1481.'
