They want to measure if they have enough reach and engagement for the effort they expend running their Mastodon instance.

Yeah, agreed. I don't think they understand how this site works. I followed two of their accounts, very few posts on very specific issues. Those posts to me looked more like either press releases or internal memos, driven by internal discussions rather than broader conversations, with little effort to provide context or to engage. I unfollowed.

I still follow most of those accounts but they are so inactive I'd hardly notice. @fulelo does a better job of putting BBC news content out there.

The old adage on twitter was "organisations don't tweet, people do" and that still seems to be paramount here.
