Hi, sorry. Last bit of spam then I will post interesting things.

This might be my most favourite thing I've made in years, so please have a little gander at it. If you'd like a bandcamp code just ask

Caught the André 3000 show in Detroit tonight. Great crowd, no phones, in the Masonic Temple. André played ~30 different flutes / wind instruments, and there was a 3 piece band. Drummer played 2 huge floor toms and assorted aux perc. Keyboardist played a polysynth. Guitarist did a hybrid FX-guitar synth thing. They improvised the whole set. It was very vibe-y, that LEAVING RECORDS / LA scene kinda thing. They hit some skronky and heavier zones too. If you have a chance to catch them on the rest of the US tour, I’d recommend.

There are consequences! People are suffering! I refuse to believe scarcity is in any way a constraint nor destitution the appropriate solution for and from what I believe to demonstrably be a curious and problem-solving species.

These reality TV stars masquerading as politicians with the exclusive goal of building a broadly-appealing and tantalizing brand for self-preservation that our citizens just gobble right up all the while the fucking crisis is at hand and the brand party is incentivized to abandon the idea of a universally safe and certain future for the earth’s most vulnerable. I refuse to believe we can’t figure this out but oh the exhausting road to get there just when will it equilibrate.

I can’t wait until we live in a time when “Hustle Culture” and its myriad predecessors and cousins are recognized as John Harvey Kellogg-esque bullshit cures for symptoms of an unhealthy society.

@nnirror “LoAFER Lab”. Lab of Applied Food Engineering Research Lab. (You said “Lab” twice! It didn’t seem consequential.)

I enjoy baking almost as much as I enjoy… not baking.

@t36s @schrimshaw @madskjeldgaard If you have the enthusiasm/capacity for it, I felt that reading all of Ursula K. Le Guin’s Hainish novels heightens the eventual payoff of The Dispossessed when put in context of the earlier novels. Not significant for any plot connections, as they are all rather independent, but the book-by-book transition/evolution from very traditional, almost cliche fantasy themes through contemporary social challenges (in sci-fi settings), and ending, finally, with a clear vision of a/the “future” was a significant experience for me. I am also attracted to Le Guin’s writing style, I devour it. I don’t have any friends that have read all of them, so I haven’t had much space to be challenged on my opinions of and affection for The Hainish “Cycle”, but I recommend it to anyone.

@nnirror Private companies huh, can’t report bugs to them, can’t nationalise all of them.

Heartbreaking:
14 Animals That Were Declared Extinct in 2023

These extinctions are a stark reminder of the urgent need for conservation efforts and to preserve our planet's delicate ecosystems.

@nnirror I was bummed I missed this. Thank you for sharing! I am so excited to enjoy it and learn something.

@waldokanto ah, and of course, I hope my gratitude in no way implies any sort of obligation, etc! A genuine thank you is all!

@waldokanto I received Roden’s Oionos in the mail recently, the result of many hours of listening to your “NowPlaying” recommendations; not the only acquisition you helped catalyze and certainly not the only I have deeply enjoyed.

I have missed seeing your “NowPlaying” posts. These many connections you curated and shared have helped buoy me though another year of far-too-“interesting” times. Know that they had value, however small. Thank you.

The lazy horse

Namibia.
The people of a village have to cross lion territory to go to the city market. They ride their horses at full speed to make the trip as fast as possible.
One man has a lazy horse that keeps stopping to eat and rest. On the way back they are attacked by lions. All horses are so tired they can't get away fast enough - but the lazy horse is well rested and has the strength to escape.

Can anyone share any communities or “websites” for finding, exploring, and supporting video-based artists?

Spotify:Bandcamp::YouTube:?? (Recent Bandcamp uncertainties notwithstanding)

I imagine there are all sorts of pre$$ures preventing such a platform; doing some “googling” on the subject mostly reiterates those $uspicions, but I’m hopeful that alternative solutions are available. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

This marvellous head of a drunken old woman is most presumably associated with the cult of Dionysos, god of wine, indicated by the ivy wreath on her head. Hellenistic period.

As I mentioned, I bought a new phone for the first time. My old junk phones were really long in the tooth, so I had an Android and an iPhone that I used for different (outdated) apps.

So I configured this one from scratch – and my God! The constant popups! The commercially-minded ¡guiding! The "I agree"/permissions! The pins! The passwords! The biometrics! The endless repetition! The bloatware! The cross-app pollination/pollution! The Google! #Enshittification, indeed! 48HR job.

I feel dirty.

I read about spotify changing their already shit deal to a new shit deal where they withhold the money the lowest played 2/3 of all tracks on there and give it to the top 1/3. Awful shit. I know they’ve always been baddies but this I think is part of a larger pattern where platforms can’t support the weight of all the data they accrued. So they do a quick analysis and reach the conclusion that “this 2/3 of our data is not generating enough plays to be profitable.”
I’m all about the weird music.
