One of those days where all I really want to do is sell off everything we own, buy a Maschine MK3, a designer coffee cup (okay, five – for the wife and kids) and an e-reader, move into a tatami room with a porch and make cool beats.
Having a union in this moment allowed us to bring Epic Games to the table and negotiate over the terms of severance. We successfully challenged the status quo and demanded a more just and fair agreement for our laid-off comrades. We are hopeful that it will allow those workers more security in these frustrating times.

It's a really quiet crossing. Four cars on the deck below and about ten passengers in the bistro. The steward is cracking some jokes when taking orders, warm drinks for most people. For me, it's a #BeerOnBoat tonight. Some sporadic conversations and the humming of the old machines are the only sounds. What a wonderful atmosphere. 🥰
Thinking more and more along the lines that I, personally, need to engage more in degrowth. I feel I need a better word to describe what I mean. Less data storage. Smaller files. Less complexity. Less power draw. Smaller and more compact. These fuzzy goals bug me with their dreamlike haze. So hard to pin down. Too squishy-soft mood-board desires. Things look bleak in the stark light of doing any actual outcome-thinking about solving these “problems” of mine. Complexity keeps stacking higher.
I have a column for some of my favourite keywords on Mastodon. There's a pretty significant overlap between these posts and my home stream. I can't decide whether it's because there's so little traffic on Mastodon, or because my Mastodon friends are so perfectly aligned with my interests.
Duh, it's the latter, of course it is!
Thanks for your presence, good people. I really enjoy your daily ramblings and occasional insight!
We left a pinhole camera pointing at the sun for an entire year.
Tada :D
@vivianrose I hope you have (or possibly had given my slow response) a positive adventure down there. A real diversity of memories from the time I spent working there.
@vivianrose my experience was that it was the sort of place where the vegetables were macaroni and cheese, menus were more aspirational than informative, and I never left a meal feeling comfortable. Charming, but a growth experience for me.
@vivianrose save your energy for eating and trying to eat. There’s nothing simple about either in Baton Rouge.
@t36s I heard someone mention a snowy mix driving through #Michigamme, but nothing here at home yet. The leaves are very yellow and fiery, having just this week dropped the aging grey-orange they held since late September.
It's funny: Both Bandcamp and Patreon had the easiest and most straightforwardly long-term profitable business models imaginable: Sit between indie creatives and their fans, provide some basic services for mediation (comment sections, media posts, semi-global payment) and take enough of a cut of any payments to cover the costs and then some.
But because that business model wouldn't scale forever, they are instead being gutted, because ever _increasing_ growth is the only model capital accepts
NOW people will read, understand, AND enjoy my e-mails and procedures! I’ve been doing it wrong my whole life.
As the otherwise unambiguous punctuation, the period, has been both visually and functionally cheapened by the proliferation and, evidently, permanence of URLs, I am formally changing my opinion on the use of a post-“.” double-space, as such. Forward, I will make an effort to modify my use and advocate for more widespread adoption.
#Google is trying again to convince you, YES YOU, to contribute for free to Google Maps.
Please don't.
It is 100% #proprietary, Google has full control over the data you added and people can only access Google Maps over proprietary channels where Google dictates the rules. This gives them too much power.
Contribute to #OpenStreetMap instead, it's a project by the community, for the community.
Today was ... interesting. If you followed me for the past months over on the shitbird site, you might have seen a bunch of angry German words, lots of graphs, and the occassional news paper, radio, or TV snippet with yours truely. Let me explain.
In Austria, inflation is way above the EU average. There's no end in sight. This is especially true for basic needs like energy and food.
Our government stated in May that they'd build a food price database together with the big grocery chains. But..

I saw Dror Feiler & Mats Lindström perform last night at Fylkingen. It was a real hoot hanging out with them before the gig. They told a bunch of delightful stories about how things were back in the way before times. The set was your classic old school noise. I felt it was quite sweet and endearing. Almost nostalgic on some level.
Conceptual regression - moving back to terminal-mainframe-setup. Lounging around apartment, in bed, on the sofa, on balcony(!) with old laptop all day, SSHed into beefy desktop that does the DSP and sends the results over Bluetooth to my headphones. Laptop does no work, never gets warm and has practically infinite battery. The past is the future.
