I have a column for some of my favourite keywords on Mastodon. There's a pretty significant overlap between these posts and my home stream. I can't decide whether it's because there's so little traffic on Mastodon, or because my Mastodon friends are so perfectly aligned with my interests.

Duh, it's the latter, of course it is!

Thanks for your presence, good people. I really enjoy your daily ramblings and occasional insight!

It's funny: Both Bandcamp and Patreon had the easiest and most straightforwardly long-term profitable business models imaginable: Sit between indie creatives and their fans, provide some basic services for mediation (comment sections, media posts, semi-global payment) and take enough of a cut of any payments to cover the costs and then some.

But because that business model wouldn't scale forever, they are instead being gutted, because ever _increasing_ growth is the only model capital accepts

NOW people will read, understand, AND enjoy my e-mails and procedures! I’ve been doing it wrong my whole life.

As the otherwise unambiguous punctuation, the period, has been both visually and functionally cheapened by the proliferation and, evidently, permanence of URLs, I am formally changing my opinion on the use of a post-“.” double-space, as such. Forward, I will make an effort to modify my use and advocate for more widespread adoption.

#Google is trying again to convince you, YES YOU, to contribute for free to Google Maps.
Please don't.
It is 100% #proprietary, Google has full control over the data you added and people can only access Google Maps over proprietary channels where Google dictates the rules. This gives them too much power.

Contribute to #OpenStreetMap instead, it's a project by the community, for the community.

Today was ... interesting. If you followed me for the past months over on the shitbird site, you might have seen a bunch of angry German words, lots of graphs, and the occassional news paper, radio, or TV snippet with yours truely. Let me explain.

In Austria, inflation is way above the EU average. There's no end in sight. This is especially true for basic needs like energy and food.

Our government stated in May that they'd build a food price database together with the big grocery chains. But..

In all seriousness, I think it's time to accept that web search is currently broken as an idea, and we all need to go back to sharing our favorite links on personal websites. And we need to make personal websites a thing again, too.

I saw Dror Feiler & Mats Lindström perform last night at Fylkingen. It was a real hoot hanging out with them before the gig. They told a bunch of delightful stories about how things were back in the way before times. The set was your classic old school noise. I felt it was quite sweet and endearing. Almost nostalgic on some level.

Conceptual regression - moving back to terminal-mainframe-setup. Lounging around apartment, in bed, on the sofa, on balcony(!) with old laptop all day, SSHed into beefy desktop that does the DSP and sends the results over Bluetooth to my headphones. Laptop does no work, never gets warm and has practically infinite battery. The past is the future.

I hate it when developers build something and people reply with, "why are you building this, we already have other software that does this".

That's like asking an artist why they're painting a sunset when there are 1000's of works with sunsets.

Let developers take joy in their work without caring if someone has already done it.

If someone could promise me that a persistent drip of charming British home renovation shows would continue to be produced forever, I’d probably sleep a little better.

How can soundscapes be used as a way to attend to forest life and the many different ways that we narrate and relate to forests?

The forestscapes project aims to explore and document generative arts-based methods for recomposing collections of sound materials to support “collective inquiry” into forests as living cultural landscapes.

As part of the project we have an open call for folders of forest sounds.

The track pad is not the feel I’m familiar with. Love the keyboard, but being a newcomer I don’t know my shortcut feels yet.

I’m happy with my new ! There is so much to learn but my friend helped me a ton. I loaded and opened but I don’t know anything about it, just excited that there might be a path to personal creation through others’ honest work.
