"Ask a programming question on the Web" is sometimes as difficult as doing the actual programming. Reducing a problem in complex real-world systems to an clean, minimal, answerable, reproducible example can take serious efforts.
Boss: "What have you done today?"
Programmer: "I asked a programming question online."
@fencer_dan Hello!
@qlp that’s true, I was just thinking in terms of search engines and looking online. It is nice to be able to own either the digital or physical version though if you do have to pay for it!
@qlp that is really cool. Everything is online these days so I didn’t buy them but it’s nice to see the history and that most of the commands would still work today.
@derickflorian I guess this is as close to me being a greybeard. It was one of the first two #Unix/Unix-like books that I got. The other was for #Solaris administration. #BSD #FreeBSD
I create open source robots as a hobby to inspire kids into doing (rather than just studying) STEM. Here's where I've got to with my K9 robot dog: https://youtu.be/tn8NwvOmrxw
Hello Mastodon,
I'm a software engineer who has lived in Dallas, Texas, USA my entire life until last year my wife, daughter, and I moved to Copenhagen, Denmark.
In my free time (when I have it) I play video games, board games, research flat earth conspiracy theories, watch other people play video games, learn Danish, and take on side projects usually involving data visualization. I also might talk your ear off about how cool the submarine fiber optic cables are.
My real name is Kevin. Welcome to Mastodon. Keep your arms and legs in the vehicle at all times and enjoy the ride.
@qlp that is probably the coolest project idea I’ve ever seen!
Hey all, I encourage you to donate to @dansup who is building Pixelfed.
Pixelfed completely replaces Instagram, and has some *big* improvements:
1. Unlike Instagram, you can upload photos through a web browser
2. Unlike Instagram, you can look at all photos and videos without being nagged to log in
3. Unlike Instagram, you can receive updates from Mastodon, Pleroma, and Misskey
I love Pixelfed so much, I've been running an instance (peerverse.space) for 7 months!
@rpfennig very cool and welcome, i have a bachelor of arts and MBA and am switching to software engineering and working on a computer engineering associates now. Glad to see someone else was able to make a somewhat similar change!
@Muller welcome, always nicer to see another dev on this instance :). Looking forward to learning from you!
Just broke into software development. Currently struggling to grasp C!
