I can see being dubious about Mr Robot, @jrandompics0@mstdn.social, but the Matrix has them being used by what's unambiguously the hero's side. I don't see 'Dark' associations there, only association with individual liberty and giving people power to go against the establishment - it's as 'Dark' as Luke Skywalker in Star Wars.
