@ericsfraga
when I search I search for both, but julialang is definitely more unique and very common elsewhere too. there's probably gonna be a day when a politician or celebrity named Julia is trending here, so is always at risk.

The game lags and courier bugs were kinda embarrassing 😄 Don't cheap out on the TI guys!

It's one of those TIs where the semi-finals are better Dota than the finals.
Finals were still pretty fun tho, just very visibly one-sided.

@peterdrake
Huh, if I click on the hashtag I can see this quote-toot, but not the original one! Weird.
It also finds your older posts with the hashtag, just not this particular one.

hey folks, how do I follow a hashtag on here? I see a subscribe icon next to a hashtag search in screenshots of other instances, but no such button in search results here.

@mcparty
I don't like mixing my editor and version control, so I use Vim for dev and lazygit for git management.
The one exception to this is git-blame, for that vim-fugitive is pretty useful.

@subramani
Didn't expect this would be an instance-specific feature! Sorry about the fake news, in that case. 🙂
I wonder if it's Fosstodon that has it disabled at the admin side, or if it's Qoto specifically that has it added as an extra (since it uses its own fork of Mastodon, as I understand it).

@subramani
> I just tried again to reconfirm no luck without a follow.

Do you mean there's no "Add or remove from lists" entry in that ⋮ menu?

> I don't see a feature to share lists with others or subscribe to others' lists. I am wrong?

This I have no idea about, I've only used lists as a private feature both here and on bird app.

@subramani @roydanroy
As far as I understand, you need to follow them to be able to add them from the "Edit list" screen. But the method I mentioned works even if you don't follow them. At least that's my experience.

(just to clarify, by "here" I mean Mastodon in general, and they're talking about toxicity on the bird app. I haven't seen significant complaints or negative impact from the quote feature on Qoto itself.)

Qoto has a quote-post feature btw, which I'm using right now to quote your post @woozle. I believe @freemo maintains his own fork of Mastodon that implements this. I rarely use it though, so I'm not sure how it's displayed in instances that don't support it.

@prof_goldberg I've always wanted boost-with-comment; if I ever get a chance to do anything about it, that will be added. That said, It's not hard ...

@woozle @prof_goldberg
All that said, I'm not heavily in favour of one side or the other in this argument, just steelmanning the position of those who don't like QTs. I haven't used the bird app enough to say whether the feature overall has a positive or negative impact.

@woozle @prof_goldberg
And while not linking to the original has its problems, linking to it can be an easy way of saying "go brigade this person and harass them". This is still possible without an explicit feature, but having a button for it is another psychological nudge that makes it much more likely that people will do it.

@woozle @prof_goldberg

I believe a lot of it has to do with the bird app's specific implementation too - when you quote a tweet, your comment on it appears *above* the quote you're tweeting. So it lets you frame the reader's view of the quoted tweet, before you've even read it. That little detail makes a big psychological (and en masse, sociological) difference.

@athulsudheesh
A rare few instances have it, for eg. the one I use ().
A lot of ppl here seem to believe quote tweets are the source of a lot of toxicity though, so don't want it. I haven't used enough to say if that's true or not.

@subramani @roydanroy
You can add anyone from any instance to your lists, the interface is just a bit clunky - you have to search their full username (@user@instance) in the search bar, go to their profile, click on the three dots menu on the top right, and choose "Add or remove from lists".

I think we as a society need to get into the habit of voluntarily supporting social goods (open source software, creative commons content, decentralized social platforms etc.). We fail to appreciate the hard work of these altruistic good people and yield without resistance to the money-hungry evil corporations. It is where nobody demands you to pay that needs your money and support the most for their survival.

@asief
is your brain suddenly remembering so many more unfinished tasks, too? 😀 it's like all these todo items sleep in the background, until there's a long laborious task and then they suddenly wake up and want to be done!

Okay, so... I have a bit of an announcement.

I've created a website for FediFollows which has all the accounts I've ever recommended (that are still working!) organised into nice topics and tags:

➡️ fedi.directory

You can browse the main directory or the top 100 tags page. (Also considering adding an "all tags" page, if there's demand.)

Please let me know what you think! Any feedback very welcome 🙏

(This is why I haven't posted in a few days! 😅 )
