We’ve always needed safe infrastructures for people, but that need is even greater as vehicles have gotten bigger and bigger.

In 2000, a bike-rider in cities next to a the most common vehicle, a Toyota Camry, had 18 inches on either side. Today a bike-rider next to a now frighteningly common Ford F-150 has just 4 inches.

What's on my mind? As a tech worker, the same thing that's on many people's minds.

If you’re not for #MarriageEquality you’re a bigot. Period. Don’t tell me it infringes on your “religious liberty.” Substitute “gay/lesbian” with Black or Jewish, etc., and tell me how that sounds. It sounds bigoted because it is bigoted. Gay marriage is no different. You can try to hide your #lgbtq bigotry behind a shroud of religion, but we see through it and you.

A few days ago I was on a panel in DC for government employees, talking about how to increase diversity in their organizations. During Q&A I was asked about how to shift leadership minds at government agencies and suppliers towards being more open to inclusion initiatives. I told them that in my observations two things are key:

1) It depends on what the existing culture values
2) Working against the existing cultural value system won't work. Work with it

Seems like I should maybe post & pin: I don't suffer mansplaining. If you do it, I will call it out. Think twice about whether you are telling me something I could reasonably be expected to already know.

Additionally, maybe some sort of indicator on posts in the Home timeline to denote how they got there (i.e. Are you following this person? Did a hashtag inject this post into your timeline?) This idea somewhat exists already with labels on "[Username] boosted" content.

There have been times when I've wondered "how did this post show up?" and often requires some detective work to uncover the answer. More transparency would be helpful, especially in a non-algorithmic feed.
