Having to use a mostly Microsoft tech stack for a project and I'm so slow and unproductive. Can't tell if this is because of the software or my lack of recent experience with it, but I'm probably a factor of 10 more productive in Linux now.
@pwaring Having seen people be productive with Windows systems, I think it's a case of familiarity; however I 100% understand your pain. I know how to play games on Windows, that's about it.
@kinnison@pwaring if I have to install an entire parallel stack of tools (Git, Bash, Linux on Windows, Docker) to be productive then there's not much advantage to getting more familiar. If I was writing whatever ASP is called this week I'd think different.
@falken@pwaring Aye, though if you were writing Windows desktop apps you probably wouldn't need all that per-se. It's swings and roundabouts - writing code which is meant to run on a *NIX like system? Develop on a *NIX like system clearly. Writing macos/ios targetted code? use a Mac. etc.
@falken@pwaring I think that in the end, most of "us" are writing code which is meant to be portable to multiple systems, at which point, use whatever platform you already feel most productive on.
