Anyone got any recommendations for UK broadband and landline providers? Not for me; for the family. Things they care about: a landline; being able to use the landline to ring people without extra or per-minute charging; reasonably fast broadband (50Mb or so, nothing wild required); less than £40 or so per month. You were all very useful at mobile phone operator suggestions, thank you for that, so perhaps this will work too!

@sil zen. Rock solid support I've hardly ever needed, get the speed I pay for, and their not in the race to the bottom bigger names are.

@falken I looked at them, but as far as I can tell, you don't get an actual phone line, only something called "digital voice".

@sil nobody gets analogue PSTN hook ups any more, as OpenReach are deep into the switch off. Router is a Fritzbox, connects to standard analogue phones fine.

@falken just discussed this with @timttmy -- a phone which stops working if your internet connection goes down is not a landline :)

@sil @timttmy well, true, but have to deal with reality of direction UK going on. OpenReach will attach a dedicated UPS to the OTE if you are 'vulnerable' or you could do this yourself if there are "reasons".
