Tip: Instead of saying "Stop using Chrome" or "Use Chrome instead of Firefox", try saying "I have written, and the Firefox project has accepted, a patch that adds a 'profiles' feature equal in ease-of-use to that of Chrome". That probably would be a lot more convincing

@mcc The best part is that Firefox has had profiles forever, they are just, as you say, totally unusable.

“Add the -profilemanager argument to the command in the CLI” has real “Did you just tell me to go fuck myself?” vibes.

@samir i'm still confused whether firefox profiles are the same or different from firefox containers

@mcc @samir ah. different. containers exist within profiles (or existed, it's unclear to us whether they are still used for anything internally, the UI kinda went away). they are, or were, separate cookie jars for particular sites.

@irenes @mcc @samir you need the multi account containers extension to use them, but they're very much still around

@delta_vee @irenes @mcc Profiles predate containers by many years. You can run `firefox -profilemanager` to choose your profile; each profile is a new instance of Firefox totally separate from the others.

If you choose different theme per profile, you can have multiple Firefoxes, visually distinct from each other.

The UI is exactly what you'd expect from an unloved feature last touched in 2008 or whatever.

My point is that all the functionality is there, what's missing is UI work.

@samir @delta_vee @irenes Does this offer any advantages over containers? (Assume we're ignoring UI because we're imagining a future where either or both features has had a UI refresh). It seems like the only difference is profiles are process-boxed and containers are not?

@mcc @samir @delta_vee @irenes yup. I can have a work and personal profile with different sync accounts
