I've been experiencing a really frustrating #linux thing recently, where my computer crashes and refuses to reboot bc it crashed at the reboot, something abt
'ystemd Freezing Execution'
at boot..
very rarely, it'll boot again, bit this is frustrating and i'm not sure how to fix short of a reinstall, which I don't want to do this time for several reasons.
Help me sr linux nerds!
wtf is happening???
@FOSSingularity What flavor of Linux? Ubuntu, Fedora, something else?
@jjdavis Ubuntu 22.04, I'd post some kind of screenshot if I could, but yeah
@FOSSingularity Unfortunately one distinct possibility is the hard drive is starting to fail (e.g. https://askubuntu.com/questions/1419316/systemd-freezing-execution-after-grub-boot-on-ubuntu-20-04-windows-10-dual-boo). If you have some way of backing up the computer, or at least your /home directory, to an external disk or USB stick, then that's probably prudent.
@jjdavis @FOSSingularity damn it.. had a feeling, okay, I did manage to get a picture of the screen:
@FOSSingularity @jjdavis yup, that disk is on the way out
@jjdavis @FOSSingularity last time I saw similar, and it was a solid state disk, it mounted OK either in an external enclosure or from live USB, but would die till power off as soon tried to write to it, hence boot issue. But still, time to test ya backups :-\
