I imagine because if they didn't they would have a split userbase and most people would continue launching CS:GO out of habit, much like how it took a long time for most people to eventually abandon CS:S for CS:GO.
@derrickb @neurovagrant @404mediaco but "cs3" would have made a ton of cash anyway...
