I'm going to have to replace my eight year old MacBook; it's beyond the point I can afford to keep repairing it. I really want the next one to be the last laptop I ever buy: we cannot afford to keep generating e-waste.
My current thought is a @frameworkcomputer, mainly for repairability. Does anyone have alternative suggestions for a very long life laptop? Low power consumption is also desirable, UN*X/Linux of some kind required.
@simon_brooke @frameworkcomputer A place I worked has some very old database servers, the issue wasn't that when they broke they couldn't be fixed, they were very fixable, it was that parts were no longer available. We were literally buying second hand gear off Ebay to keep them going.
@Glencoe we do that as well and IMHO it's a good way towards reduce-reuse-recycle. My next daily driver laptop will be a lease-return as well.
You can get a 3 year old refurbished device with warranty for about 1/3 new price. It will likely serve for the next 5 years or so, and aftermarket replacement batteries are readily available.

@fedops @Glencoe @simon_brooke I did that for 20 years with Dell's till Framework shipped to my country :-) Reckon on a new 13" lasting well over a decade.
