@Ertain @mhoye but having listened to talk, seems like they are just bring back behind paywall features 99% of deploys don't need because they are small/single server. And if your that 1% you should be contributing back already.

NEW: A marketing firm owned by telecom giant Cox is advertising a service to companies that claims to *actually* listen to embedded microphones in users' phones, smart TVs, and smart devices:

Tell them you’re doing all you can to remove data rights.

The government is gifting itself powers to check the bank accounts of anyone who claims a benefit.

And that includes the State Pension.

Or say no to welfare surveillance in the Data Protection and Digital Information Bill.

There's just a lot of people on here today saying "give facebook a chance" who do not seem to want to talk about what facebook does with the chances it's given.

@tomstafford it depends :-) Why email? Could it be a single page that just displayed the answers because the maths is simple & open? How many and how often? Any particular accessibility concerns?

More seriously, default answer is Vue 3, delivered via Serverless(.org) that also packages the API for submitting answers doing maths, sending email.

All on AWS. Zero cost if not used, tiny fractions of a cent per use.

Framework Laptop 13 (AMD Ryzen 7040 Series) is now out of pre-order and into normal ordering! Many configurations ship directly from inventory within a few business days, and all ship within two weeks. October and November were both record months for us for factory output.

“I shipped identical boxes, less than a mile, with 6 different delivery companies. One was seized by the police.”

Great read. builtformars.com/case-studies/

@AnnemarieBridy Sadly, I use Chromium browsers if I encounter those issues since most websites have decided that it's not worth supporting Firefox anymore.

I hope that you can read @BryceWrayTX's post on this which is dire: brycewray.com/posts/2023/11/fi

Are you using Dropbox cloud storage? You do not want 3rd party AI technology partners to have access to your Dropbox files? Flip this switch, which is on by default. Go to web->account-> settings- 3rd party AI. Please turn it off. Please boost so everyone know how bad this move is … 😡

@Ertain @mhoye it's so widely used it's bound to be forked if they tried. See MySQL, which is largely gone and replaced with MariaDB

@adriano @neil That's kind of an interesting position. Not being snide, just I took CS in the early 2000s and did AI courses that used Bayesian inference. Another example was early machine-learning systems like WEKA, also considered AI, or speech synthesis, voice recognition and OCR, which are also AI. To me when people say AI it means all of these things, even simulated annealing and things like that. But the term seems to have narrowed in the last few years, maybe?

Even then there's lots of potential uses for neural network, generative AI. My favourite example because it makes my life a lot better is multimodal systems that describe images and answer questions about them. Being blind this makes a huge difference. For obvious reasons I want this to run locally though, if I take a picture of a screen, my room, or something I want described, I don't want to share this with some random entity.

@tony @ScaredyCat true about what clients will tolerate.

We did get a demo of AR working cross platform, web native, with fairly simple models, and it wasn't that bad though. Had to use QR markers.

@tony @ScaredyCat in the past we had success using cloud based Mac (eg Ionic appflow), but yeah, requires cash forever or bye bye app, and we got tired of telling our clients how shit the Apple review process :-(

These days, would either charge a lot more for the faff, or insist on doing as web site. Very few reasons for requiring app...

YMMV etc etc obvs
