@huggles @ericmann @wlonk In my case today, it's just the ongoing AI nonsense followed by notification pushes I've started receiving when accepting patches asking me to start using github actions and AI and who cares what else.
Microsoft wants Github to be a tool I don't want to use, so it's time for me to leave.
@isadora @ultranurd @mcc @saddestrobots and now they are trying to rename Active Directory. No good will come of this

Oh gawd FireFox has started inserting adverts for other @mozilla services into forms.
A few last thoughts about Facebook and Threads.
Their claimed user numbers are obviously bullshit. Even taken at face value, millions of people clicking a new button is not millions of people using a new service.
Second, their business is serving ads only. They have as an organization proven, repeatedly, that they will accept any adverse human impact up to and including genocide as long as their graphs go up. Their stated intentions are irrelevant and believing otherwise makes you a mark.

"The story of car bloat—the continually expanding size of the typical American automobile—is one of carmaker profit, shifting consumer preferences, and loophole-riddled auto regulations. It is also a story of hidden costs: to the planet, to taxpayers, and to the American families whose lives have been shattered by a crash that could have been avoided, or at least mitigated, with a smaller vehicle."

Directed by Matthew Robbins (Dragonslayer, 1981), it was the first movie written by Brad Bird (The Iron Giant, The Incredibles).

@john380 @pluralistic Eh-yup.
I largely walked away from Facebook about 5 years ago, but I didn't nuke my account, because I have close family members who still post there, despite agreeing it's horrible, and every so often I go in there to check what they have posted recently. I refuse to post anything new or otherwise interact with it except for this one limited use case -- which *would* go away if my family would start avoiding it consistently, but they don't.
I once asked one of these close family members which of Facebook, Google, Amazon, Apple, and Netflix was the most terrible; my vote was for Amazon because of its absolutely atrocious labor practices, but his was for Facebook because Amazon at least has something that could be a socially valuable business model if the labor issues were worked out, whereas Facebook's model is actively fucking with billions of people's mental health and social stability. He still actively uses Facebook regardless, largely because of the network effects.
so we've got a function that should write 3 16-bit words to memory. where do we store them?
1. on the stack?
2. AX, BX, CX?
3. pass a pointer to memory?
4. FUCK THAT NOISE, we store 1 in AX, the other in BP (yes the frame pointer), and the third? it's a hardcoded memory location. Fuck you.
guess which one railroad tycoon picked?
