@sil @slightlyoff because nobody believes Apple and Google will make it easy enough to be popular. Won't even move needle against their entrenched positions. Sadly
@mhoye lol
For those interested in such things, here are 2 657 images showing the Office of Road and Rail 2021/22 passenger travel data projected onto a shortest-path network for each of the active mainline railway stations https://github.com/anisotropi4/kingfisher/blob/main/station.md
The main code still needs some work but the will be posted on GitHub here https://github.com/anisotropi4/kingfisher/
(There are already some helper scripts for generating markdown and creating the PNG images but not data yet)
Can we just stop using Discord and go back to using forum sites?
I realize it's (comparatively) super easy to set up, but y'all realize it's just going to bite us all in the ass as soon as someone at Discord decides they need to turn up the profit ratio?
It's a ticking time bomb. The whole thing is going to follow the enshittification process, and anything of value on there is going to be lost/sold/destroyed. Y'all are just feeding the monster.
My free Pixel Watch 2 finally arrived today, and immediately I'm hit with a massive problem: Fitbit, which is Google's new fitness stuff, does not work with a Workspaces account. Just won't accept it. As usual, Google fucks over its oldest, most loyal paying customers. I've had this account since 2006. So no fitness features for me. At all.
Good job, Google. Better waste some more money on your useless "AI" features while your actual customers get boned.
Just finished watching the christmassy episode of #DoctorWho. Already loving the new Doctor and companion. I'm very curious about that old neighbour lady Mrs Flood.
@neil @goatsarah @pbarker I've always wondered why DNS is allowed out but HTTP not, when on a captive portal. Is it common enough I should bother adding a 2nd wireguard port?
@penguin42 @neil and the failure mode is shown in the show too - basically falls back to as-now "please come over here"
@penguin42 @neil it's still a very restricted set because you know who should be off that plane
@penguin42 @neil see recent https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m001s8qd/the-secret-genius-of-modern-life-series-2-1-passport by the awesome Hannah Fry. There's literally a demo of how this works by scanning everone as they walk down a hall.
@nixCraft isn't -f in ssh-keygen dangerous? Best left off...
Well. Not the best Christmas episode, but at this moment I'm ready to eat anything RTD feeds us. Just let the man do his work. #DoctorWho
Thinking to myself this morning “Threads can’t be as bad as I recall…”
First post in my feed: Instagram influencer with a cup of coffee watching the sunrise from her balcony in a $1000/night hotel built with slave labor in a country where women can’t drive, telling me about how she has discovered that the secret to life is learning to savor the little things.
No, apparently the secret to life is to be born rich, white, and beautiful.
Anyway, that’s enough Threads for 2024.
@Sal72 snap but would swap in heartbeat to anything on Android that had unified cross account view
