The High Court has quashed regulations introduced under Kwasi Kwarteng to allow employers to undermine strikes by bringing in agency workers, calling ministers’ approach and lack of consultation “so unfair as to be unlawful and, indeed, irrational” https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2023/jul/13/strikers-agency-workers-high-court-verdict
After *many* years of work (e2e time), on Monday, I'm turning off m.bbc.co.uk & m.bbc.com.
They did their job when they were needed but that time has passed. Here's been our process for decomm:
1. 301 m. to www. (> 1 year)
2. 410 m. with custom "please use www" message (~6 months)
3. Delete all monitoring/graphing
4. Delete DNS for m.
5. Delete CDN/server configs
6. Remove m. from cert renewals
7. Remove m. from docs & processes
8. Remove m. from IP allocations

@neil as I've seen it described, these are just (new?) Ubuntu-specific security patches, and they still provide the same old security patches from upstream.
It is, however, a message designed to get you to sign up for their Pro service in a deeply manipulative way.

I can see the value in proprietary apps and platforms that make it easy for users. I can also see the value in a well-kept turnpike or toll bridge.
But.
There is even greater value in open source, non-proprietary networks and protocols, just there is greater value in the public highway being open to all.
But law and policy, like politics, is the art of the possible.
Rather than building another bridge or road, removing the toll-booths on the current ones may be a good approach.
Can we all just sit here and gaze upon this mastery by Rick Parks in 16 colors? No scanning, done by hand in Deluxe Paint on an Amiga. It's almost photographic in its perfection.
Rick worked at Westwood Studios and worked on Eye of the Beholder I & 2, Dune 2, Kyrandia and other classics.
Rick died in 1996. His incredible creativity lives on.
Instagram head Adam Mosseri says pretty conclusively they don’t want Threads to be the new app for news and journalists. Makes sense given Meta is threatening to pull news in Canada and California.
Ultimately, Threads is a sanitized space for brands, grifters, and celebrities — all designed to sell you more shit.
Burns: Well, everybody knows, ‘war is hell`
Hawkeye: War isn’t Hell. War is war, and Hell is Hell. And of the two, war is a lot worse.
Father Mulcahy: How do you figure that, Hawkeye?
Hawkeye: Easy, Father. Tell me, who goes to Hell?
Father Mulcahy: Um, sinners, I believe.
Hawkeye: Exactly. There are no innocent bystanders in Hell, but war is chock full of them – little kids, cripples, old ladies. In fact, except for a few of the brass, almost everybody involved is an innocent bystander.

** Do you want a free LTI TX4 Taxi? **
The time has come to get rid of my lovely* LTI TX4 taxi.
I have used it as a video conference room for the last couple of years, and it has been great, but I no longer need it.
I am very happy to give it away to a good home, a mediocre home, or indeed any home at all short of illegally dumping it.
It ran last time I drove it, but it won't pass an MOT as-is, and will need to be trailered away from Newbury, Berkshire.
HMU if you are interested.
