Over 450 cybersecurity experts from institutions around the globe call out the magical thinking at the heart of the EU's and UK's (and all) proposals to impose client side scanning and undermine strong encryption:

Apple joins Signal & WhatsApp: they'll pull services from the UK before compromising privacy + security. This makes sense: the alt to exiting is undermining your reputation, killing the trust of those who rely on you. See: RIM, Blackberry, Saudi Arabia.

When the first age verification scam happens, and someone is tricked into handing over their passport info to a scammer?

The first compromise of an age verification service, leaking loads of sensitive ID documents?

The first time a backdoored chat service is exploited, and someone's private messages are obtained?

When the UK loses data protection adequacy?

I've only played A Short Hike, but it's good. This collection looks like some chilly, low-key fun.

It’s been so fun chatting with everyone on Mastodon; I plan on sticking around here for a long time. However, for my longer form, rich content, I like Post – where we can continue to build a community that actually cares about each other. I’m really looking forward to seeing you all over there as well. You can sign up for free here: post.news/@/georgehtakei?utm_s

The UK government wants input on its ideas to make the Investigatory Powers Act even more invasive on everyone's liberty. Deadline is 31 July. You can read more and respond here: gov.uk/government/consultation

Apple already said it would withdraw Facetime and iMessage in the UK if the changes proceed:

So we are left with the Government's amendment, which passed. That is an incredibly weak oversight in the form of a 'skilled person' having to write a report on the topic. After that report, OFCOM will be free to issue a notice to providers to develop and deploy software to scan their user's private messages. This is no way to provide protection for our fundamental human rights. Those rights include our right to privacy and freedom of expression.

It's coming! The 1080p remaster is the way to go. While we're losing the 16:9 presentation, what we are getting is the proper 4:3 special effects which were so badly presented in the DVD releases. To quote another franchise "The Best of Both Worlds."

As a detective who has investigated heaps of CSAM cases, I am comfortable stating that this bill is total bullshit; a civil rights grab of the worst and most fascistic kind, cravenly disguised as “for the children”. Please, if you are American, contact your representatives and tell them you’re against this. act.eff.org/action/tell-congre

The opinion finds that there is “likely to be significant interference with freedom of expression that is unforeseeable and which is thus not prescribed by law”.

This represents “a sea change in the way public communication and debate are regulated in this country” as the Bill would require online content to be screened and blocked before it is even posted, with tech companies that don’t comply being sanctioned. #OnlineSafetyBill #censorship #freedomodexpression

Turns out it's nothing to do with products/contracts - you can only enable http/3 on Akamai configurations whose TLS slot mandates TLS SNI - which ours does not, because "history".
Looking at our data, we're at 0.1% of requests not sending a TLS SNI header...& that's mostly crawlers & other people's monitoring.

So, if you are using BBC www as "is the internet working" or crawling us & not sending TLS SNI, please fix that or your stuff will break at some point (no timescales yet).

Boosts are 🙌🏻

Hello Mastodon followers, help please.

If you are a follower, could you kindly "like" this post when you see it so I can gauge how many are seeing/reading my Mastodon posts?

Nominally I have 41k followers on here, but I think that figure is artificially inflated because of how many came over last November and then went away again.

Many thanks.

There was a Twitter campaign last year to support the #Babylon5 remake. I tweeted 100 reasons I love Babylon 5. I will repost all 100 here, to count down to #TheRoadHome release next month. (There are more than 100 reasons I love Babylon 5; that's just where I stopped the tweets :P )
