Good morning, nerds. I'm printing a Benchy, because I want to try out a new filament.

@wilw I probably should've done that too when I put on the spool of mineral PLA, but I got impatient.. thankfully, things worked out.

@JollyOrc I know will is probably too busy to reply to my question. Perhaps the same directed at you... Whats a benchy and what 3d printer do you recommend for serious engineering prototypes?

@wilw

@freemo Benchy is a small boat model that people print to make sure everything is working correctly and all the settings fit with the material. That is needed because no spool of filament is truly identical to another one, unless you buy quite expensive high end material.

@freemo happy to help. fabbaloo.com/printerguide/ has a slightly helpful guide to what kind of printer one might want to buy.

@freemo regarding the printer recommendation.. that is hard to tell. Depends on so many things, least of all your budget, the materials you need, whether you want functional or just design prototypes, and so on. I'm just a hobbyist with a 400€ Creality CR-10S

@JollyOrc Thanks. Yea its all the options that have stopped me until now.

@freemo I *love* The Prusa MK2, and I'm planning to get a MK3 as soon as I can.

@wilw Really appreciate the response, I know how busy life keeps ya. I'd love it if you shared your 3D printer projects sometime btw.

Today I learned: Wherever I go, Wil Wheaton has already been there.

Someone has to, imagine him making his own social network. That sounds both awesome and terrifying :D

@wilw I have the MK3 and I can really recommend it, it's a great printer. I'm eagerly looking forward for the Multi Material Upgrade to be released!
