I think @whitneywebb is awesome, but she's fediversing wrong. Most of what I see of her are replies to people on Twitter, which is fine (it even includes the links), but the thing is, if I'm here, it's, at least in part, because I'm not interested in Twitter and I'd rather not have to go there, not even for context.

She is likely not on the fediverse at all. When you see that it usually means someone is using a bridge so that anything they post to twitter gets mirrored to their fediverse account and then never login to their fediverse account. So its closer to a bot at that point IMO (though sometimes they may respond).
Most people block accounts like that and your right, its not the way to use the fediverse, dont even bother at that point. A **lot** of people really hate when they see that and many servers and people block it outright if that is the case.
With that said it is ok and often welcome to have the fediverse be your main account and then use the bridge to post over on twitter
