The formatting is Tufte style. The reason I picked the abstract to be full width is to bring it more attention and because there are no figures or notes needed in the margin there. Might make sense to have it be the same as the rest there, I agree.

Yea I agree with clicking on section 3 too, I think right now you can click on the 3 itself and get there.

We use latex and it can be done in latex too.

Which place holders do you mean?
