@realcaseyrollins @ufoi I'm fine with the conversation but I'm opposed to organize to sanction other instances. I fully understand this is an attempt to make it a more fair process but it's not hard for the individual to just block the instance themselves. This movement could alienate 1000's & watching how things usually work when people get organized, it has always gotten more extreme as time passes.
From snowflakes to free speech extremists, I want to know them all & try to build a bridge of peace between us all.
> I fully understand this is an attempt to make it a more fair process but it's not hard for the individual to just block the instance themselves.
You're not wrong here. I think the goal is to de-incentivize knee-jerk or baseless bans.
I do think that if timely removals are necessary, that may be difficult or impossible to do unless we get enough members that span enough time zones.
@tsomof @ufoi To stay on topic, in my experience, I've never come across anyone on the #Fediverse who genuinely hates #LGBT people and won't tell them or others to kill themselves, so honestly adding that clause should be enough to keep those types of people away.
@realcaseyrollins @ufoi I have about 35 accounts who came at me one Sunday like that. They are definitely here & they don't usually dog pike unless you state on their thread racism & hate is ridiculous.
My guess is more than ½ are just soc accounts to make them seem bigger & I'm not even sure they are really from the states or white.
@realcaseyrollins @ufoi it isn't hard to block them yourself. They really don't keep up with harassment. I got most of to block me because I spammed them with my TV service every hour in DMs. They go away pretty easy.
@tsomof @ufoi I ended up muting them for 48 hours when I got hit with the first wave, then permanently after #graf, the only guy on there who was cool, flew off the handle and blocked me after misinterpreting a joke and a few weeks later some other folks started a new spam brigade campaign.
But I think the point is to foster a healthy/family-friendly community, so "block them yourself" doesn't exactly fix the problem.
@realcaseyrollins @ufoi I'm not sure this problem can be fixed. It looks like a game of whack a mole. These people will just spin up new domains & continue, right?
I see your points though.
@tsomof @realcaseyrollins @ufoi
For me the main point is reporting of instances that does not moderate properly. But while I have seen many reports a lot of them also lack evidence.
So I’m just taking your word for it? I’d rather make up my own mind.
It could be that the solution to this doesn’t have to be so convoluted as the proposal is now.
> So I’m just taking your word for it? I’d rather make up my own mind.
Isn't the whole point of this project to gather information, and share the evidence transparency without just taking people's word for it before banning?
> It could be that the solution to this doesn’t have to be so convoluted as the proposal is now.
Fair enough. What do you think about #UFOI should be changed?

This makes me super sad to hear that people are bullying for essentially saying you agree to a no hate speech rule and to defederate based on evidence.
I think the fact that they are bullying you and others like this is the **exact** reason we need UFoI in the first place. Together we can grow and oppose these sorts of patterns, alone they can pick us off one by one.
On a seperate noteI did hide the list of UFoI members, so it should prevent harassment. The list will go live once the bylaws and reporting and voting system are up, so should provide us time to accumulate critical mass before they star miss behaving.. then if they want to ban 50 servers all at once they will just hurt themselves anyway.
No one will even know who withdrew and who didnt so they wont have a clue who to target moving forward.
