Hashtags are so important in this area, but yes as @freemo said if instances are so #idealogicallyPossessed that they block based on differing viewpoints, especially on divisive issues like childhood education or security. Then yes the net result will be possibly a rejection of Fediverse.
If an instance is "general purpose" or "no agenda" then they should indeed strive to allow all views to be aired, within limits of fair and what is lawful, obviously.
@dsfgs @freemo @webmink i think we're witnessing the implosion of the concept of the "public square" where anybody feels entitled to have their opinions multiplied by an anonymous algorithm.
We're going back to the early blogging days: i write my thoughts on my little blog, you comment on it and I decide whether to accept and publish your comment on my blog. Simple and clear. None of this algorithmic discoverability BS: you'd find great content by reading and following links.

Yes and no, we like to think real humans can thrive in the fediverse environment.
Having said that we think MastodonDevs have been doing things to cater to dark forces that seek to dominate fediverse. Seen to them as another resource to extract from.
The default(?) ExploreTab is one such abomination, and is unneeded, given that sheer, #randomness is a better way to show #diversity. In our estimation, fairly basic randomness cannot be gamed by botFarms.

@freemo @webmink this is the original design of the internet, go loof for what's interesting rather than get bombarded by notifications of "new" things.
A more interesting question for me is whether these people who complain about the #fediverse being hard are suffering withdrawal syndrome from the addiction that most social apps are designed to create.
