Good rant/analysis on "philanthropy":

"... creating the very injustices that they then get lauded for giving fractions of the wealth they hoarded to solve...

"... wealthy people refusing to pay their fair of taxes and instead squirreling that money away into family foundations ... to spend on their pet projects at their whims and leisure."

I’ve been saying this for years! “Charities” (ughhh I hate that word) exist because someone isn’t doing their job. In a well-functioning society -hell, even in a mediocre society- in which people, especially the Uber-rich, pay their taxes or else go to jail, in which private companies are not allowed to destroy our planet, in which there are decent safety nets for its citizens, charities would be redundant.

No way. In fact the opposite, in a proper society filled with a good culture and respectful people, wont need to be forced at gunpoint. There woukd be no need to tax people because people would be more than happy to donate to the point taxes would t be needed.

I respectfully disagree.
Humans are by nature selfish pricks. Left to their own devices, they will hoard their earnings like a squirrel caches their acorns. A strong society needs to break that instinct by enforcing laws that make people part with their earnings. In a thousand years, if Homo sapiens survive climate change… they might happily share again, but not today.
