I wonder what percentage of kids who played football regret their decision to play football... They got permanently injured, brain damaged, hell, a couple kids every year die from playing football. In the interest of protecting kids, we should ban all football until you turn 18, get letters from 3 therapists, and have specific insurance coverage additions to cover any injuries you have. Also, your coach should be legally liable for any damages or regret you have from playing football.

(This is an analogy about trans kids btw)

That actually makes sense. I woukd support banning football before age 18.

That said trans i see as different simply because hormone therapy is far less effective post puberty.

Yea @freemo, the same for bodybuilding and ballet. The impacted population is too small for it to be written into laws IMHO, but I should be legally allow to parent my children when I have them in at least convincing them not to walk down such path.

@JessTheUnstill, there’s a thick line between gender dysphoria and LARPing, and IIUC reasonable conservatives worry about children making choices at the age the brain hasn’t mature enough to. If something involves severe and irreversible consequences (detransitioning at a later age is as ineffective as transitioning AFAICT), false positive should be critically minimized. Even for reversible choices like housing, education and occupation, letting a preadolescents to decide is hardly a good idea (and totally dismissing their opinion is also as damaging).

As you point out it works both ways... prior to puberty you have a small effective window to either transition or not, and the decision is at least partially permanent.
