Individual barnacles are small, but on a large ship, barnacles can accumulate to the point where fuel consumption is increased by 40%. Ouch. Expensive.
@stux (or your server's admin) pays the bills for mstdn.social out of their own pocket. That's not fair.

@WolfIsMe @stux Stux puts his time, energy, and money into mstdn.social, the least we can do is contribute when we can. I have a monthly reminder setup, heck with the amount of data I am using up it’s only fair. If the Fediverse is supposed to be the better way, we need to help it and that means helping with the bills.

QOTO infrastructure (not just mastodon but all our additional servers) cost us about 1000$.. I dont know Stux's cost, probably less, but its still significant I'm sure.

I figured you were less because I use infrastructure that isnt the cheapest intentionally for some features that make admining a bit easier for me. So if your paying that rates on hosting that is on the cheaper end... that must be a lot of resources.

Yeah, it's a lot of services and they are all growing 😮 i try to keep on top of it by removing external media older than 91 days for example
next to that i also delete and create a new sidekiq server every now and then
In busier times an extra can be spun up quickly but also deleted as fast
thats another way in which my infreastructure is more expensive. We have a policy of keeping all media and caches from the beginning of time onward. This means people who opt-in to having their content searched that content can still be seen from the begining of the fediverse and searched for, even if the server is long gone.
Costs us way more, but its a feature I'm glad we offer. Users can of course delete their data or opt-out

That is nice indeed! I wish i could offer that but maybe that's something for the future, it's not really "needed" since it can all be downloaded again on the fly though but yeah..

Its the old stuff that cant be redownloaded.. sometimes causing broken threads.
But yea its not needed, just a nice little feature.
Twitter resources would be nice. I'd offer us to merge efforts and bank roll (i pay the 1000$ for QOTO out of pocket and dont take donations).. but I dont think us merging efforts would be good for either of us, people love to get upset over nothing. But man if we pooled resources....

I did change the plans a few days ago so i hope next month will be cheaper but i pay between 1300-1500 per month these days for all services
