Interesting fact of the day... If you put a new born baby under water they will instinctually know to hold their breath until they come to the surface. It is called the Mammalian Dive Reflex and infact engages all sorts of different responses from the heart, to blood flow to the spleen.
@cobratbq Which one? I knew this fact for a very long time, but I was reminded of it by a veritassium video i recently watched.
@freemo that one
@freemo I needed to be vague on purpose. I wanted to check without exposing the name.
@freemo the video reminded me of something I used to experiment with in the local swimming pool.
If you exhale a sufficient amount of air you can actually sit comfortably on the bottom of the pool without floating upwards.
It's not a joke. I don't refer to drowning. It's just that the oxygen is in the blood, etc., not in extraneous reservoirs, making me heavy enough to sink.
I think my trick uses the same basis as what the video explained.
@freemo Hmm how did you discover this
@torparskytt You will find out in my next interesting fact of the day where I give tips as to how to get your family not to bother you when they need someone to watch their kid!
@freemo Did you watch the video from a day or so ago?
