people think ogres and orcs are a reference to minorities
they are correct
they are a reference to the english
:blobcatlaugh:

@icedquinn I still want to know how LOTR movie got away with every single person being white except for orcs and trolls who were almost all black people.....

I feel like cancel culture missed a prime oppertunity with that one.

@freemo it was released when that cancer was still called political correctness. the cancel squads have indeed gone after fantasy races, and their latest hit squads have gotten mixed races removed from D&D.

@icedquinn wait.. mixed races are racist now.... man I am **not** getting all my memos!

@freemo
> With the proposed changes aimed for inclusivity, the new edition for Dungeons & Dragons will be removing direct references to Half-Elves and Half-Orcs, opting for a more generic way of determining mixed species. In addition, they will not be directly named in official D&D published and digital content in the future.

to address the inherent racism that we made the fuck up, we are just memory holing any references to mixed race people. progressive! :blobcatflower:

@icedquinn So wait... its racist to recognize a persons mixed race heritage..... so how are we supposed to refer to someone who is half black and half asian now?

@freemo biology isn't real freemo :blobcatgoogly: what are you some kind of evolution nazi

you should be less of a science denier, gosh.
@freemo just look at the drow if you really want to see the short end of the stick

everyone: noo they're evil you can't play that
fandom: :blobcatflower: what if the purple dommy mommy was chaotic neutral
salvatore: :ablobcatgrumpy: nooo i won't allow elistraee clerics to get any screen time
everyone: :blobcatdunno: uh oh we better remove that race because they're one dimension and evil
fandom: :blobcattableflip: because you kept ignoring our attempts to fix it

@icedquinn haha drows are actually a cool race with so much potential as a playable character with the right DM!

@freemo tell that to pathfinder who damnatio memorae'd them and replaced them with lizard men.

@icedquinn fuck that shit... I can add anything i can imagine or want to the world... I always found pathfinder and other books to be suggestions at best anyway.

Just stupid to get rid of them, they were an awesome race!

@freemo everything faerun went out the door when they dropped OGL
@freemo most stuff got some legally safe rewrite, but the underdark was nuked under some cope of being problematic.
@freemo good vs evil except evil never does anything worse than jaywalking

I wonder what the licensing is on the underdark tbf. It’s interesting listening to Ed Greenwood et al talk about NDAs, setting rewrites, IP merges, etc as they often add “oh, well we couldn’t keep that due to X holding Y.”

@thendrix @freemo elminster also had a drow apprentice but salvatore had some hard-on against letting any drow but his exist in the setting

Yeah, I shared the video on her as the NDA was just lifted like last month or so!

LOL

@icedquinn lame! I guess kids these days just cant handle anything dark....

@icedquinn@blob.cat @freemo@qoto.org ?? https://pathfinderwiki.com/wiki/Drow

Oh i guess they're getting mem holed in the remastered editions. I can't imagine that's going to work out in their favor. I bet most people will just use the current lore/rules for them and carry on. Tho they are only barely close to D&D drow to begin with. Different universes and all.

@miscbrains @freemo the creative director gave the tough decision speech but if you dig in the thread, he admits he himself proposed nuking them and not a single person at paizo made the slightest attempt.

@icedquinn@blob.cat @freemo@qoto.org That doesn't surprise me actually. Both paizo and WOTC are full tilt ahead trying to SJW harder into total irrelevance. I meant in terms of the audiences.

@miscbrains @freemo idk my saturday fell apart and the players won't pick classes for a new one. i'm probably gon go back to sleep on tabletops.
