This is Sir John Freeman, Baron Fremingham of Glassenbury. He is my 15th great grandfather, a Knight, a Baron (british royalty).
He changed his name from DeFremingham to Freeman, I suspect the name change was due to membership in the freemasons, but since it predates the organization globally (grand lodges) it can be hard to be certain. But family tradition and history is highly suggestive here, my entire male line goes back to the beginning of free masonry and this name change just a few generations before that. So the link is highly suggestive.
It is from him my coat of arms and technically my status as british royalty, but functionally these things are meaningless, just interesting historic gems is all.
@freemo so do we have to genuflect whenerver we meet 😂.
One of the sector of your armcoat has the sing of the Borbones, the spanish royal family's dinasty.
@mikelga The Freeman line on its own is the boat of arms i attached (though the lozenges may be white instead of blue)
The Coat of Arms you see int he image is one I also technically "own" but its a coat of arms that was inherited through marriage. So the other 3 sectors represent the coat of arms of wives who married into my male lineage, and thus granted me the rights to include them in the fashion shown here if i wish.
But generally the more "pure" coat of arms is the one I'm more likely to use unless i wish to announce the other royal blood that was married in (which i care less about personally).
@freemo i like your motto: libre eta ausarta / free and brave
@mikelga Its a good motto I agree. My family history is very cool. I never knew my dad growing up so i discovered all this rather late in life. I was surprised to learn my entire family lineage, almost all my great grandparents down to my father, all made it into notable history books.
@admitsWrongIfProven hahah its true.
I am native american, my dads line came over on the mayflower and is "american royalty" and they came from birish royalty. So literally that saide I am half white invader and oppressor, and half native american :)
@hans Late 1500s
I'd be curious to take a closer look at how the borders might have changed between the Netherlands and Germany over the years. I know the Dutch were their own nation going back quite a ways at least, but I suspect the borders have moved quite a bit.
As I understand it the Dutch were quite old by the 17th centruty.. By that point they already started recovering land from the water.
@hans Well, that water is reclaiming land is no specifically dutch problem. More of a... genuinely human lack of self regulation? With an accent on those that set the note?
@hans Are you looking for a solution to water reclaiming the netherlands or to humanity killing itself?
Not asking because it makes a difference, i'm unqualified to help in either case... just asking because i am curious :-)
@hans I could theoretically be on this planet for decades... but having exhausted my abilities and ideas, i too look to forget.
Always revolving around the problem of communication, the current hate-blitz gave me the last push to not try. Horrible things happen, and what people are mainly doing is accusing non-involved people of evil, while the climate collapse is all but forgotten.
Hope you have a nice place to watch uor self-imposed downfall, hope my little rant was not unwelcome. Cheers!
@hans I think french movies and cheap beer go well with it.
Anyway, it's nice to meet someone else who is close to being a punk. Unattainable in the end, but i think we vibe with "no future".
Apparently holland existed (though was no independent) as early as 1083 (first written record). Just checked.
@hans You are the second person today who has recomended that link. And for entierly different reasons.
@freemo Interesting stuff... say, what was your childhood like?
Asking from the perspective of a non-us-person, we generally don't put so much weight on the genetics (bad experiences in the past).
To explain why i asked, at one time you said you were native american, and i questioned it, i kinda have this question in the back of my head if you actually know what it is like or if it was a claim on genetics ^^
@hans I think there is a misunderstanding - i do not think genetics were important aside from superficial things like what one looks like. I think the experience is what matters.
