@kw Helllo there, welcome.
I'm the admin, let me know if i can help with anything or also feel free to reach out anytime just to chat if you want.
@TruthSandwich I've gotten to the point where anytime you call out something I post as "dumb" or "A bad take"... I take that as a sign that the post deserves boosting :)

Obviously I dont buy the two party nonsense... but even if i assumed it were true for a second...
If my choices are:
1) Vote Biden - Help Biden a lot, hurt Trump a lot
2) Vote Trump - Hurt Biden a lot, Help Trump a lot
3) Vote Third party - Hurt Biden a little, Help Trump a little, Help third parties show better numbers and support for future elections.
I will go with 3 every single time... It reduces how much I help either candidate (more so than a direct vote for Trump as I'm sure you will agree)... and has some positive effect on the adoption of third parties by people int he future....
#3 is the clear win for me, even in a two party system.
@TruthSandwich By the way if you had a third option where I could hurt biden and hurt trump, or help biden a little and hurt trump a little, then I might very take that... but per your axioms that for some odd reason doesnt exist
Nice, I always liked getting the high score :) Dont forget to put me ont he scoreboard :)

@TruthSandwich Actually that is a bit of a story... I registered as a republican specifically with the intent of sabotaging the republican party.. my intent was to vote in primaries for a weak but popular candidate that is a runner up. The idea being it would weaken their candidate and cause them to loose elections.
I voted for trump int he republican primary thinking "this guy is a moron, if he wins there is no WAY the republicans could win, no one in their right mind would support him"... keep in mind this was **before** I knew biden would win.
Well, long story short, I was wrong.
Either way this time around ill be making a legitimate GOP vote for who is best, and not make that mistake again... if Trump wins again not sure what ill do at this point... I guess whoever is third party i dunno...
Can anyone suggest a candidate other than Biden or Trump that look fairly moderate and a good choice? I have ruled out all third-party, all alternative democrats, and of course Trump... This leaves me thinking maybe one of the republican candidates are worth voting for but so far every one of those I checked out are pretty horrific too...
Is there even one candidate that is remotely a reasonable and moderate choice?
TL;DR:
I agree. The employees demands are reasonable, it sounds like they are. But my issue is with UK law, the correct solution here would not be to force the employees back to work but rather to erase the law that prevents companies from firing them. At that point let the strike resolve in whatever way it will.. TheBut the current law int he UK is immoral and thus leads to immoral compromises like forcing the strikers back to work. It was the right choice given the legal limitations as you explained them, but the correct choice would have instead to give the company threat of being fired may make the strikers settle... but likewise the threat of the expense of loosing everyone if they fire one might likewise be pressure preventing them from firing. This seems the only correct solution to me
> Companies can hire scabs if they want, but again where would the big three auto manufacturers find several thousand trained, non-union technicians just sitting on their hands waiting to scab out their already marketable skills?
Offer them enough money they will leave their other jobs to work for you.. The point of a union is to make it so expensive and hard that is more economical to negotiate, as it should be.
> You cannot be fired for the explicit purpose that you participate in a legal strike or picket line, if the company wants it can disolve and lay off everyone at once but most billion dollar companies probably arent gonna do that
If they cant fire someone for not showing up to work (regardless if its due to them striking or not), then I would agree with forcing them back to work... that said I dont think this is how it should be. The company should have the option to fire them (and face public back lash) for not doing their job.
> Literally the whole point of a union is so that a company wont just fire everyone who asks for a raise and keep those too scared to ask. When labour stands together they have more leverage to bargain with.
I agree, but that shouldnt be as a legal restriction... The idea should be that firing **everyone** is just too damn expensive. And if they fire one of them everyone will quit their job because they agreed to do so. This negotiating pressure should be what stops them from firing people, not a law.
Yes, but i would hope that we would hit strategic military targets and when possible avoid civilians... there may be collateral damage sure, but my point is we should treat every situation with nuance and not just reflect our enemies morality unless we have to to survive, and maybe not even then depending on your morality
It certainly didnt... but if your response to that is to nuke all of russia and being ok killing the people who are even against the war, and even the freedom fighters who are russian but opposing it... that would be wrong morally, and not something I would support.
On an individual level I agree, if they are willing to kill you but you arent willing to kill them, you will be the one to suffer..
But applying this to groups in aggregate, or in general applying the logical fallacy that a part of the group has the same properties as the group, is dangerous at best.
> did i stutter ![]()
You didnt stutter, but you were non-specific.
Does "they" refer to a collection groups, or does "they" refer to a collection of individuals... are you talking about treating they collectively as an aggegrate, or they as a set of individuals... are you applying this test to the whole or the part?
USA politics
Its not about age, its about senility and mental function... Biden is clearly senile and does not have the mental capacity to function in ANY role, let alone a presidency. The fact that this mental decline is age related is tangental at best.
Trump is a great counter example, he too clearly doesnt have the mentality to be in charge. But his mental insufficiency is in no way related to his age. He was mentally incapable of being in charge even from an early age.
@icedquinn are we speaking in aggregate or as individuals?
In others words should i be willing to do to the group what 90% of the group is willing to do to me, even if that member of the group is not part of the 90%?
Trump’s lawyers failed in their attempts to force Judge Chutkan to recuse herself from the case. Trump likely assumes any judge who is black and female won’t look too kindly upon his behavior. But in this, he is mistaken: No one in their right mind, whatever their gender or race, ought to countenance what he has done. What Trump hates is that she represents the fair administration of justice. Against that, he stands little chance of skirting accountability.
@georgetakei Yea I cant imagine even a judge that he picked would be ok with half the shit he pulls....
Completely agree with you here on that.
What is your favorite `non causa pro causa` fallacy?
