@nithou we both learned something knew, awesome!
@ceoln Didnt even know seas could be subsets of other seas... good to learn that then :)
@nithou Oh really? I didnt know a Sea could be considered part of a larger sea.. I guess its like counties in a country.. but a new idea to me.
@nithou I think franch touches the Belearic sea only.. but id need to see where the exact borders of the seas are to be sure.
The US bombed the fuck out of Afghanistan, propped up a corrupt government and warlords, oversaw a collapse of infrastructure and public services and most of the country pushed into poverty, and then it acted surprised the Taliban still had a steady stream of recruits.
There comes a point where your approach to "peace" needs to be more nuanced than "kill 'em all."
@peterdrake Why do you have a replica of my desk in the physics building? :)
@freemo a ruler tattoo seems to be common in the knitting community, or sometimes a design that subtly functions as a ruler
I dont think both sides want the other dead.. but both sides are unwilling to comrpomise.
Ehther you agree with it or not, remember the palestianians had the land to themselves for many many generations and are proud of that. Most palestinian families if you go into their home have a family tree going back hundreds of years of their roots in palestine.
In their mind there is no compromise, they were there for as long as modern history records (in fact the Jewish claim to the region is a biblical one, not historical). So nothing short of the Israelis either leaving, or at least creating a single shared nation is an option.. thing is in a one state solution with democracy the palestinians outnumber the jews, so they would win democratically.
The jews will never accept a one state solution, the only solution they will accept is if their allowed to steal the land, they proide the option of stealing a lot of land, or a lot of land minus a tiny bit... and they wont settle for anything less.
Neither side sees anywhere where compromise exists as being an option.
So no, not because of hate, but because of what they want I dont think the two sides will ever create peace **on their own**.. now if we invaded, deposed both governments, dissolved the border and spent years there trying to setup a transitional govt .. then yea, you might see peace.
You worded that wrtong again you m3eant to say "Pelestine defending themselves and being wiped out by israel is genocide and ends the war"...
You can **not** call it defense when Israel are objectively the invaders. You cant even say they are reclaiming land they lost 2000+ years ago as they arent, the land they occupy is not the same borders asa the original israel.. the current borders are in acentrally arabic lands that was not the Jews.
**Palestine** does not want to kill all jews. A few terrorists do who rule by fear do...
Terrorists that only really gained traction due to the poor living conditions and abuse under israel of the people (you do that you get radicalism, it isnt right but it is an expected consequence)
Moreover there are plenty of Israelis who want to kill all Palestinians, about in equal proportion as the other side. But it wouldnt be fair to say Israel wants to kill all Palestinians either, their leaders certainly do though.
And correction, tates approach is if you think mass genocide when you are the aggressor is immoral.. and he is right.
I mean tate is right.. but the truth is talk will never work because the one just thing (the occupying force leaving completely) is not on the table...
Now that I finished my static web page generator with ActivityPub support it is time for me to pick a project name and domain. Which domain do you like best?
You can see the current website here: https://flear.org and can view that webpage from the fediverse here: @flear
@freepeoplesfreepress we should intervene, kick all the israelis out (the occupying force) and let the palestinians have their home back... we shoukd also dismantle the hamas and help setup a transitional palestinian govt.
Sorry was meant as a reply
> We do not always agree nor should we always agree on everything. I do agree that Israel does not have clean hands, cannot take the moral high ground. What I do know to be true at the current moment is Hamas has knowingly and intentionally committed crimes against humanity by slaughtering innocent people in Israel. Right now the people of Israel do have the right to shutdown Hamas's reign of terror.
Israel has consistently right up to the moment of the Hamas attack, engaged in terrorism against them... The Hamas has engaged in terrorism in return. While both parties are wrong and guilty of war crimes, to say israel has a right to retaliate means that the hamas, likewise, was justified in their attack as a response to Israel's terrorism.
I would say neither point of view is right... both commited war crimes, neither has the right to continue commiting war crimes simply because the other side commited some.
> I do not believe Dr. Freemo that you have become a terrorist sympathizer, anymore than I have become antisemitic, Israel has failed to fully recognize the Palestinians, all democracies around the world need to intervene in the middle east and try to be the catalyst for all middle eastern countries to sue for peace
Thank you I am glad we agree that neither of us are terrorist sympathizers.
> If this report by IDF can be independently confirmed and verified by multiple reliable sources, we must totally support Israel's right to defend itself against Hamas.
>
> "IDF REPORTS: WOMEN, TODDLERS, ELDERLY "BUTCHERED." BY HAMAS."
Sure, but considering for 100 years Israel has effectively done the same by crowding them into small ghettos, cut off their water and electricity, and let them fester in their own feces in their own land... Every day for a palestinian is another act of terror from Israel... where was the call to action then, where were the people sending tanks to palestine? We sent all the tanks to Israel, and none to palestine,l a terrorist country committing genocide, now all of a sudden we should be acting to enable Israel? Thats very contradictory
Not always.. I mean on some distros yea, but ubntu it just has an installer and your done, and usually everything just works once installed.
In fact I can say ive spent more time fixing bugs when installing windows than with linux, which usually just works the first time.
I think many people **think** thats true simply because they have expiernce with windows and not linux so they are more likely to install things in a known-workable way on windows.
