@impooortant Well that comment surely has small brain energy.
Being prepared is just responsiblity, nothing more. Especially when you are in my position, but yea your brain is too small to bother even asking why its needed, shame. How do you even dress yourself.
Ok decided to up the ante on my CQC ar-15... already have the red-dot installed (posting that image again for reference)... I decided im going to ad a flip-to-side 3x magnifier (got a monstrum brand as it was the only good quality magnifier in FDE I could find). I also have 45 degree FDE iron sights ill add as a backup.
I ordered the parts, ill share the final configuration when its done!
@Pat This vote will not in any way decide if we silence that instance.
I wanted to figure out if i asked who wanted an instance silenced, when that instance was one of the worst examples of an instance that I would expect would have the largest number of people voting "yes"... in that case how many would agree.
My intent was simply to see how often the instance is likely to agree on silencing any one instance, where I expect this instance to get the highest percentage of yes of any instance.
@freemo Back-in-time debugging (not really exclusive to AST based languages, but it apparently only exists in CL and maybe smalltalk), stickers for capturing output FROM THE EDITOR (without modifying the code itself directly), and semantic navigation are really only possible with AST based languages, unless you leverage tree-sitter as an intermediate which isn't always accurate.
All I'm saying is this:

(Replace "still real" with "beautiful"...couldnt' find a better fitting meme 😅)
hahaha.
Hey ill be the first to admit the aesthetics is a really silly reason to pick a language... but man it weighs a lot higher with me than it has any reason to...
@freemo Use Clojure with Datomic/Datalog (or if you want simpler, an isomorphic web framework may fit the bill)!
1. Clojure has plenty of full stack frameworks, and there are great resources I can link on recommendations (Macchiato is a great looking framework). Additionally, it's very easy to spin up on AWS, which makes it quite convenient.
2. Datomic/Datalog is a query language that allows querying based on "facts" and "rules", which can deduce new facts from known facts. Conveniently, many of the syntactic structures in datalog are highly sugarable and allow for compact queries, as compared to their SQL counterparts, though both database methods are (more or less) equivalent. I would seriously check this one out, even if you don't end up using it :3
3. You could also consider common lisp weblocks (or similar, there are others), which is an isomorphic web framework which makes a lot of things really nice and convenient both for writing and debugging! I personally plan on using this once my startup gets more off the ground and we get into the web dev phase, at least if I can get a few more devs on this in the mean time 😭
Anyway, that's my two (three?) cents, don't spend them all in one place 😂
@johnabs My buddy Dustin would be excstatic about your suggestion... I do love functional languages (it is one reason I want to use haskell so much)... and I really love Datomic's approach.
Literally the only thing holding me back is really silly... its just so ugly.... but thats a very poor reason.
No contradiction. The point is the long muzzle and shoulder-rest give you greater accuracy... you dont need high speeds for high accuracy, especially not at close range.
Depends on the subsonic you get.. A good subsonic uses the same amount of gunpowder but a heavier bullet to keep the energy the same but bring the velocity down to subsonic levels.
The problem with 300 blackout is they have too much energy and you have penetration issues again.
That said you are right that a 5.56/223 isnt the ideal caliber... personally if i wanted an ideal CQB I'd do an AR-15 chambered in 5.7. But I dont have one of those yet.
And seriously, if you dont even know subsonic 223 exists, which is the standard for CQC configurations, why are you making suggestions about law or configurations... Dont get me wrong please feel free to weigh in, but it seems you should be more humble and asking questions rather than dictacting and arguing about the evil ar-15.
Sure, here is a link where you can buy 5 different options of .223 subsonic ammo. Which by the way for CQC I do recommend hollow point subsonic .223

The conversation about cops is mostly a tangent, so ill disengage on that part. But points noticed.
As pointed out in my other post (sources cited) even without a silencer a 9mm pistol is louder than a 223 rifle.
Thinking its silly to want deaf people to be able to talk to other people rather than to have to resort to apps and cant just walk in and buy a burger without a whole ordeal... sorry no...
We could also just argue that everyone can just use the drive through and not need a mask to go in at all then if they want masks.
I just checked... and a 9mm handgun is in fact **louder** than a .223 rifle like the AR-15
9mm pistol: 159.8 dB
.223 rem (std load in an 18.5" barrel, the loudest configuration): 155.5dB
So this brings us right back to the start... do you have any actual reason not to use an ar-15, so far you just gave reasons why its advantages arent as significant but not a valid disadvantage.
Just the fact that they cause less ear damage sounds like a good reason.

> No, cops are not very well trained when it comes to guns. It turns out that shooting is just a small part of their job and they don't spend much time getting good at it, much less staying good at it.
This is a blanket statement and the reality depends on where you are.
In philly they have routine firearms training with objective testing. They have minimum standards they must meet when it comes to hitting the target, distance, timing, and tons of other things. Yes their training here isnt bad at all.
Obviously other jurisdictions may have little or no training.
> They're also pretty damned bad at hand-to-hand, for what it's worth. Civilian enthusiasts generally beat out cops in both categories.
This I have no knowledge on so cant say how PA/Philly compares.
> Even worse, cops have no control over how their weapons are configured. That's why (until very recently and then only in limited areas) they run iron sights instead of dots.
This I know to be true in almost all jurisdictions as I've done a lot of research on various firearm options across different PDs... again it depends. Many jurisdictions usually let the cop select from a list of approved guns, and they can customize it as they wish and even pick their own holster under certain guidlines (there are what are called retention levels and police usually have a specific level their department requires of them).
> At this range and on the move, bracing is irrelevant. You're going to be point shooting, not pausing to acquire four points of contact. And you're going to struggle to keep the dot visible, so losing your irons will be crippling.
I take it you have never done competition shooting (which replicates a real world encounter as best you can)... Yes bracing and aquiring target is quite critical and you are trained to do it quickly.
> You haven't thought this through. But, to be fair, it hardly matters. You'll be deafened and in pain after the first shot, and everything that follows will be a flinch-a-thon.
This is a 5.56, we arent talking a lapua here.. Democrats, usually ones with little real world gun experience, often assume the AR-15 is some super powerful gun. They dont realize we are talking one of the weaker rounds available. Will your ears ring, absolutely yes... will it be manageable in a fight, also yes. I have forgot my ear protection a few times where I shot accidentally... it certainly did nothing so bad as to make it impossible to shoot... not healthy for your ears sure, but no trouble shooting it.
That said ear protection is a valid point... so so far your only actual objection is that it will hurt my ears.. so you are arguing I should use a less- safe fire arm because it will hurt my ears less.. all thanks to democrats making it harder to buy surpressors and forcing many people onto a less-safe fire arm int he first place... that said, it seems like your arguing I should spend the huge cost on getting a surpressor and use it to replace the muzzle... in that sense its a good idea and I'd agree.
> No it isn't. We are going to end it, and we'll end people like you too if you interfere.
Ahh so you will be violent AND will still have a massive COVID problem in the end too... have fun with that
> blah blah blah...
At this point you have no value left to talk to so I wont read futher. Once you threaten to kill me for not listening to your anti-science nonsense you have lost any credibility and I wont engage further.
@mike805 @jeffcliff @luckytran
#1 we have basically seen happening.. Thats not COVID ending thats just COVID not mattering as much so people stop caring. Thankfully COVID is already less lethal than earlier strains though.
#2 very unlikely given the nature of this particular disease. After multiple generations maybe, but not soon.
I have had COVID 7 verified times myself so far.
