@kst There are issues around poverty and people not making enough.. but those are problems that should be solved outside of the mechanics we discuss here.
@trinsec No its pretty universal in the world... It isnt the result of high-education people getting hired for low skilled jobs. It is instead the fact that high-education positions that automate low-skilled jobs emerge. People are hired to build self-chekout machines and to maintain them, and the cashiers loose their job entierly. As minimum wage increases this accelerates.
@trinsec Because minimum wage is well known to cause unemployment shifts towards the poor... Higher minimum wage means hiring shifts so that fewer poor/low-educated people are hired and more higher-education people are hired. Minimum wage effectively increases unemployment amongst the group of people that you are trying to help (the poor) doing more harm than good.
@LWFlouisa Well that would be consistent at least.
@freemo Fun bit of trivia, some left wing anarchists are anti-union.
I'll have to investigate what the reasoning is. I looked up worker cooperative, but YT didn't offer any clarity.
@trinsec Everyone wants more, everyone thinks they arent treated fair. Companies think they pay too much for employees and may just as well view themselves as the one not getting fair treatment.
The anti-trust laws on companies is specifically there to ensure fair market value (no price fixing), so thats already how they get fair treatment.
I am also against minimum wage, it has caused enormous harm to the poor.
@jtb No its not, but other aspects dont need unions, you can organize for other purposes, thats fine.
I have always been a big supporter of #unions but lately I have been second-guessing that and debating with myself if I might actually change my views to be against unions....
My thinking is simple.. I am a huge supporter of anti-trust laws. Essentially I dont think companies should be allowed to create coalitions with the intention of price-fixing the market. This makes sense to me, companies **must** compete or else they can become too powerful.
If i believe in that logic then I should, by similar logic, be against unions. Unions are effectively large groups of people getting together to carry out price-fixing of their labour.
@jerry I own the docker hub organization for this, its even free as an open-source plan... I really need to find the dev so I can transfer it to him.
@admitsWrongIfProven Appreciate it.
@admitsWrongIfProven Its not a feature, its totally unrelated to us.
@admitsWrongIfProven nope :)
I am completely new to this world. Everything I know is from the internet - hamstudy.org & YouTube primarily. The prospect of communicating with satellites is thrilling to me! I'm also interested in the "surival" uses of alternative forms of communication. #introduction #ham
We arent talking about "successfully implemented"... there is no "socialism" by itself.. it is one among many properties that can be adopted to varying degrees and in different ways.. there is no "This is a a socialism".
For example you have certain countries which are highly socialistic, but they are still capitalists too, and even a little communist.. it will always be a mix because you simply dont have "pure" things in the real world
@customdesigned As I recall the server has encryption keys to ensure a server caned be mocked.
@gpowerf depends on the detail of the psuedocode.. but wouldnt have anythibg to do with ai if done well. Psuedocode in detail can be translated to other languages easy enough. Its only when ai starts to fill in gaps that it breaks stuff a lot.
@braindouche Is he wrong though?
@Paulos_the_fog replied to the wrong comment maybe?
@Paulos_the_fog It isnt "my definition" ... I took those definitions from wikipedia/dictionaries and summarized.
> If that's your definition of socialism, the UK in the 1960s and 70s went a long way down the socialist path. Much of British industry was publicly owned - the railways, British Airways, steel making, mining, much of the automobile industry, British Telecom, The Post Office, some banks, ICL (mainframe computers) and much more!
Of course! As I said there are no examples of pure socialism, communism, or capitalism, because governments dont exist in ideaologically pure forms.. Yes you can find elements of all types of governments.. There is some socialism, some capitalism, and some communism in every government, and you will find plenty examples in any of them.
Its important to recognize governments dont exist in pure forms. There are no capitalist, socialist, or communist countries wholly, the reality is always a bit more nuanced.
That said, socialism is any system which advocates for the means of production (factories, resources, companies) to be community owned by those the services serve.
Communism is a type of socialism which also advocates socialized consumption (who can consume what is publicly shared, rather than based on money)
In short, Socialism is making public/socializing the means of production and communism is socializing both the means to production and consumption.
Communism, socialism, capitalism, etc has never been implemented, because pure forms of idealistic government never will and never should exist... That said these properties have been well established in countless countries.
Socialism is any system in which
