@midway

You seem to be confusing the term "natural human rights" witht he term "right"... all natural human rights are rights, not all rights are natural human rights (some come from law).

Here we are talking about legal rights, not natural rights.

That said I would say that yes, it absolutely is a natural right as well.

> No one has the right to demand any such thing. You can want that, and others may want to accommodate you for a variety of reasons. But calling this a right has real implications.

I am not demanding anything of anyone... By default I'd have every right to walk around with metal formed into any shape I want. The idea that when metal is in certain shapes it should be illegal seems quite the violation of natural rights.

Now you have the ability to take away that right, and demand that the population restrict what shapes of metal I can have, sure... but to say its your right to tell me I cant own certain lumps of metal and cant even cut certain lumps of metal into certain shapes.... now that is something you do not have the right to do.

@georgetakei Lets just hope we get through this election with some hope on the other side :)

Thanks for the response, hope you have a wonderful day.

@thor That is very promising... I do hope it works out it sounds great!

I have always tried to respect peoples choice on pronouns. I never really had any objections to it as long as it was one of the standard language pronouns (he, she, they).

But as I sit here reflecting I keep coming to the conclusion that it shouldnt exactly work that way. We should of course have the right to pick whatever gender we want (including non-binary). Likewise we have the right to demand of people they use the language that matches our gender (which may be different from our sex). What we dont have a right to do is dictate to them what language they use, or what pronouns for that matter.

If a woman is addressed by a person it is my right as the speaker addressing them to decide if i want to use "She, ma'am, lady, hey you" whatever I want to express what i want to express. ma'am showing more respect than she, etc. No one has a right to dictate to me how I address anyone, but you do have a right to demand I treat you like the person you are, and the gender you are.

For the most part that wont be a problem. I think most people who are not CIS-gender would be ok so long as they are addressed according to their gender. I think the times this might get offensive to some are 1) when people want to use exotic pronouns like Xir, they wont get what they want and probably be mad about it 2) when addressing non-binary people there are two gender-neutral pronouns considered acceptable in english "they" and "he" (yes he is gender-neutral in some contexts, and masculin in others)... the non-binary case could be problematic when a gender-neutral "he" is used because some people dont know its gender neutral and may erroneously assume it was used to represent male gendering. That said, thats a matter of education.

@thor It very well may be... i am not suggesting what your experience is or isnt.. just relaying my own experiences in the hopes it may be useful

@strawd Yea I kinda expected the extremely orthodox religious types to hold this view... but 1//3 of the population is shocking.

@thor Well what i mean is ... i dont think id know even when i wasnt around them if the feeling was still active and the connection fresh... It isnt the act of being away that would let me distinguish, but rather just time. If the feeling is still there in full force in a month, in 6 months, then yea its gonna last and is real.

@thor Sadly it doesnt really work that way... for all my hindsight im sure if i went through a lusty phase with a new woman I'd swear up and down it felt the same as love again :)

Thats kinda the thing, love and lust feel the same early on, not sure you even can distinguish it short of just being patient and giving it time.

For me the take away was not the ability to say "hey these two feel different" but rather the ability to say "Ok I feel this again it might be love it might be lust... try to keep the feeling in check until youve had the time to know which it is so you dont do anything youll regret"

@thor I dont think you get access to your internal state until after the fact? I certainly didnt know it was as I described when i was experiencing it.

So i am thinking of writing my own digitalmode... based on but with several improvements.....

The coding and algorithm is easy enough... what worries me is the difficulty ill have in testing and debugging... im struggling to think of good ways to do a lot of it... I need to obviously figure out a way to test it that doesnt require transmitting over the air (though a real world test is needed too)....

@thor Any woman i dated that I asked out (so i was clearly interested before the date) I felt this way about... in those cases for me it was fleeting.

I think, at least for me, that effect when dating ties into the whole lust vs love thing... its bascially how our bodies react to what we think is love, but we are really bad at seperating that out from momentary lust.

PS: lust does not mean to imply it is physical or even superficial... just that it is based more on your image of the person than the reality, cause you dont know the reality yet.

@thor I am going to start calling all my friends by a nickname that reflects the drug they resemble :)

My hope for the SCOTUS in the future is that they stay conservative just long enough to strike all the worst gun control laws off the record... and then once we get there have the SCOTUS go neutral again with a fairly equal division between left and right wing ideology.

I feel like given the trajectory we are on that seems reasonable that by the time one of them dies a liberal president will be in place to nominate the replacement.

My thinking is, while im excited to see Gun Rights to be honored again, the other stuff they do can be very damaging and harmful. But thankfully gun rights are a bit harder to take back so my hope would be once the SCOTUS goes neutral again they will repair any damage done while leaving the reestablished gun rights in tact.

@thor

Aside from infactuation that is fleeting and a one or two time thing, I have had that with 2 people in my life... Even when i stay away for a decade and think that part of my character is "dead" and i wish i could be thatperson again.... all we do is hang out and it all comes back in an instant.
