@jon Reminds me of people who protest oil pipelines... as if an infinite train of trucks hauing that oil would somehow be an improvement.

@admitsWrongIfProven I would argue it doesnt prouce effiency at all, but quite the opposite as there is no free market competition to optimize the resrouce.

@admitsWrongIfProven Im not sure id quite go that far.. But i dont disagree... it should only be a safety net if your in need, not provided for free to everyone even if they can afford it.

@tripu

I think government issued grants have a place. To me its simple, when the investment benefits everyone it is worth spending money on.

I also support tax-paid free education at every level of education. My argument is similar, a smarter population makes more money and makes more taxes.

@admitsWrongIfProven

@realcaseyrollins with linux all you should have had to do was bring up the new drive then rsync files.

@realcaseyrollins ahh in that case you probably just need to learn the right tools. There are like a 1000 ways you can do a drive, and the right approach makes your life much easier... but even the janky ways are easier.

what was the issue maybe I can help with future suggestions.

@TEG I had COVID 7 times (as a scientist that worked on covid it is a bit inevitable even with a mask)... Got to the point I stopped caring so I stopped wearing one.. not because of any good reason though, like im not against masks.

@TEG Yea its a complicated issue on many levels.

There is an argument to be made that masks used by the general public can result in mor e harm than good in a few ways:

1) MAsks tend to be used passed their 2 - 4 hour viability "life" sometimes across days
2) dirty masks can act as a vector, even if the mask has only been used for a few hours.
3) handling of the mask, souch as touching may increase the spread, doctors are trained to use mask under strict procedures
4) They are extremely harmful to the deaf who rely on lip reading

Stuff like that, while im not saying that is the case there is a valid argument that wearing masks may even spread diseases.

@TEG yea iv heard that excuse... and yea the study is far from complete IIRC, assuming this is the same one I remember...

The truth is the evidence to strongly support masks either way, in support of or opposition too, is very much lacking when it comes to use in the general population. Anyone asserting it has been proven or disproven that masks are effective against COVID would be wrong.

The same mentality that causes someone to support a sports team that is clearly on the loosing side simply out of loyalty rather than who is best.... well thats pretty much the same mentality people apply to politics. No one picks the candidate that is best, they just care about supporting their team, through good and bad.

Hey qoto is a non-monitored account. You want to message moderators..

Yes if you were posting automatically that will get you silenced, it is clearly stated in our rules. If you have begun actively monitoring your account i can remove that, let me look into it.

@freemo @cyberspice

People needed to stop _reacting_ and start _meaningful action_ . And no, that doesn't mean blindly/bluntly protesting, forming a mob, or even blacklisting something.

@cyberspice That is a perfectly accurate description... except it applies to the left wingers as well as the right wingers. The moderate / centrist parts of the spectrum are the only place left you can find any semblance of sanity.

@linuxgal GOP...I mean yea, but did we forget so fast that Biden is the first president we have had in our lifetimes who started his career by trying to keep segregation alive and blocking desegregation efforts...He was quite vocal about it too pointing out how he didnt want his children to grow up raised around minorities.... This picture is litrally Bidens early career before he realized it made more sense for him to exploit minorities and black people by pretending to be an ally rather than openly attacking minorities.

A teaser:

* I want abortions to be not only legal but also publicly subsidised
* Ditto about euthanasia
* Ditto about hormone therapy and sex-reassignment surgery
* I am pro same-sex marriage
* I want more and freer migration
* I want the Sate to provide safety nets
* I am against the death penalty
* I want all drugs to be legal for adults (but also regulated)
* I think the State should be completely secular (no official religion, no subsidies for churches, no mentions of god)
* …

@tripu I agree on all your bullet points except for "no subsidies for churches", churches should have all the same benefits as any other nonprofit so long as they operate as a nonprofit. Being religious should no more disqualify them for subsidies than it should qualify them for it. That should be determined (and granted) based on the same criteria as any other group.
