i have been steadfastly refusing to use Chromium over Firefox for a long time, but there's this extension for Chromium which remaps the close-tab shortcut from ctrl+w to ctrl+c, which cannot be done in Firefox at all apparently

and my relationship with Firefox might be over 😢

@danso
such fickle relationships :)
but what I means is that small things can make people forever jump from one thing to another... and while I think there were big gaps before a key config you could hold out for or even re-map yourself :)

@freeschool i have looked into re-mapping it myself, but Firefox takes special steps to make changing ctrl+w super hard. aside from patching and recompiling, i don't think there is a solution

@danso Fair play for trying...
-How about a external keyboard shortcut key using an app?

For example CTRL+2 / CTRL+SHIFT+W instead of CTRL+W (just something similar)

@freeschool you have my attention... do you know of any such thing?

my requirements are that ctrl+c closes a tab, and ctrl+w does not. bonus points if ctrl+w deletes a word instead ;^)

@danso
will put on short-rang list of things :)

also consider meanwhile these:

- If Middle-click on mouse to close Tab would work sometimes (again not perfect but sometimes a mouse click could work as well as keyboard shortcut)

- CTRL+BCKSPC for word delete
:)

@freeschool thanks for your help! i don't think you quite understand what i am trying to do.

i know that keys exist for things like closing tabs and deleting words. the problem is that Firefox's keys for doing these things are unique, and conflict with every other program i use.

ctrl+w is a particular offender, since i use it so often in the shell. with Firefox it instantly closes whatever i was typing.

@danso
Agree - you need that specifically not some work around. Until I find that specifically then I'll calm the suggestion down :)
