@Longplay_Games @Le_bottin_des_jeux_linux @freeschool Fedi servers have also a big weak point: they can disappear way easier than GAFAM video services. And when it happens, it's hard to find the motivation to rebuild everything from zero on another server, knowing the risk. Scalded cat fears cold water!

I used to keep a Peertube account up-to-date, but after its sudden closure, I only sticked to YouTube. Maybe it will change someday, I don't know.

I agree- I also had someone move servers on me (but also said at the beginning too as it was a personal thing). Luckily I wasn't in too deep but I was tempted... Have won by not gambling (not putting anything online as a 'easy more-permanent way' as it doesn't really exist unless you burn up energy / like to do up / down stream stuff / multiple copies / interact with Google / conform to American law / E T C. Hehe.

So I good not to build on bad base... and solve the base as still at the end you'll need to have offline backup probably and replying on it is also adding more cost AND time at the end so better maybe not or for example 10 preview videos on PeerTube and then SSH/FTP-style silo from your own other safe place...

The work flow and decent silo is important (i.e. if you can't use YouTube or Amazon AWS or America as you backend then solving this problem as part of solving everyone else's problem)...

Smaller bytes of data is my solution and people work more than bloatwork (for me audio is the magic middle and also saves time up and down stream and backup and managing self-names assets are is super easy). There is a lot of existing video - just enjoy a bit of that but maybe not add to it.

Maybe the people work increase is the best part of having reality literally hit us back (as a result of reality of 'cloud' computing kicking in our rights to privacy and being seen as less and less doable as an import of America politics / rules into every transfer and contract paid or unpaid).

Cloud is more correctly 'remote storage' though cloud sounds a bit ambiguous and bad to me but asking people where there Google Photos are and how it's stored and who is managing it - is always interesting!
"So where are you photos now exactly?" ! !

The idea of permanence is a bit of a fraud (it's all just temporary upkeep that's been a turbo for like 20years max maybe)

A few scenarios I thought of and challenges:
- accepting the false temptation of cloud
- realising who we are 'in bed with' is a problem (America born tech / law / Gov surveillance etc)
- realising how government and big corp / tech, actually work together if not create from their evil!
