People who say "of course they won't try it because I said so" and don't recommend things >_<

Totally self-defeating... yeah
don't try OK ! :D

Of course maybe they do in other ways but that attitude is a bit like "don't change the world there's no point / too much effort even 10% of what you suggest or even once!"
Maybe I see *those* people as actually the people as part of the mindset of non-change (if it more common in things they do)

Example:
mathstodon.xyz/@ColinTheMathmo

(but in this case probably for work reasons or as standard or work culture it maybe really isn't possible but I see people you say "100% they won't" or "can't" or don't want to kamikaze suggest things as saving their energy perhaps too preciously.... so if I'm the extreme here I personally feel there is *always* a bit of 'wiggle space' for personal use and then *slowly* get other people involved with your reasoned effort, again subtly and without deviance in mind). Suggestions follow. But if it's impossible "why read any more" <--- lol, yeah no don't read I'm sure it's impossible lol!

On the flip side, if you believe Jitsi Meet is better or simpler than Zoom for audio video conference / conversation or can suit a certain condition (you can try it now almost 1-click / no account needed meet.jit.si/chataboutyourtopic !) THEN put a certain effort but measure it / put a cap on like 5 people max at work or wherever, or just stick the logo on your monitor and wait for people to ask first...!
Pin it to Mastodon as I have if it's important enough / rotate banner type things like I have on my profile with what my principles believe in and 'hit' those people hard in the mind! (with what is genuinely good or eqally just not horrible & mainstream
!)...

@freeschool Some people in some organizations 100% have no ability to change what videoconferencing they use. Many large organizations have deals with M$ for their IT that mandates M$ products (like teams) are used in every possible instance. You as a worker will be penalized for non-engagement. Even if you’re relatively high on the totem-pole you’re not going to override your organization’s policies.

Ideally everyone would have the vast opportunities to simply switch to employers that are more receptive or don’t force awful options, but we’re not there yet.

@LibreSolutionsNetwork
Yeah I'd go for the subtle options such as the sticker type of option on monitor / laptop or even own printout if it's in corporate setting.
Just need to get stickers ^^
or make printout... ah such a hassle :]

@freeschool

Depending on the size and role of a corporation, lots of them give you the freedom to choose your operating system. Further if you are forced to use a specific one, usually you will still have some freedoms in choosing the software on the system, where you could choose to opt-in to FLOSS.

Though the thing is that lots of individuals don't even know that this is an option. Most people just use the default software that the device ships with without realizing you can almost change every aspect of it. That is one reason why Chrome gained so much popularity over the past decade (via mobile).

A further factor of jitsi, although it's true that you can simple create a call via their servers, you are still trusting them not to have malicious intent with that data. Of course you could set up your own server with jitsi on it, though from my experience it is not a hassle free process and there is a lot technically tweaking needed for it to work flawlessly in every use. And then a lot of time there is the lack of convenience, e.g. if one is already using something like slack where they already have the feature of in-app calls. Mattermost is an okay alternative which does do its calls via jitsi though again a technical team is needed.

People sadly are habit seeking organisms and anything that differs from an established routine will cause the individual immense pain (usually psychological). It fascinates me still to this day why certain people do certain processes although you have repeatedly told them of better and more convenient options.

There was some notion that an individual has to hear it on average seven times before they make a conscious change. Further only a small portion of people are nuance seeking and thus don't mind of taking the leap of faith with the new thing. On the flip side, there are just as little people who are forced into the new thing, because the technology doesn't exist or it is heavily inconvenient to continue using the traditional option (horse carriage vs car). Ask yourself how many people do you know that have an email, a mobile number, a phone number, a post address, or any static point of contact?

It is totally fine not seeking and continuing to live one's scripted life. And per se it is better to be upfront that one knows oneself well enough that one won't change than receiving false promises.

So in the end I can see how it can be frustrating, how certain individuals won't be nudged towards your suggestions, though through time you will get a feel of individuals who are open to change and focus your energy on them instead.

In the realm of content creation, once your motivation exists, the occasional hiccup of a neigh-sayer, should only trigger the questioning lense of why they acted that way, and not make you terminate your journey.

>It fascinates me still to this day why certain people do certain processes although you have repeatedly told them of better and more convenient options.

Well it does take processing time (not for everything) but sometimes the time allows other things to fall into place like tetris
(obviously this is all in my opinion)

So the time allows that one point they were thinking about or blocking them to fall into place

there is also necessity and force needed to engage things 'quicker' or for 'survival mode' but anyway the longer way round in 'considering things' would always be longer... like what people don't move to another Operating System can be because of simply moving or data (and even finding it) but if you have someone that does it 100% you might just give it to them the nex day to reinstall (regardless of the interface). They don't take your advice (they do take it but don't implement) because implementing and fitting one's own context is actually quite hard / and a de-motivator what already 'works' even if it's not the most efficient or ethical.

Also nowdays any change is asking for trouble so actually keeping your old car for example is better than hopping into the new types of car you can't repair yourself or have no idea how it works because it's locked people out. (this is not the best example but new stuff or replacing stuff is also full of problems even those recommending it don't know- which in cars I believe is common (until it comes to repairs/maintenance every 5K 10K "it's the best" ) and in other things people didn't understand to begin with (Crypto, Money, Business, Coffee etc)

Summary
These are extra 'costs' or consideration though I still stand by the psychological aspect that change even if you trust the person (who may say it because they love gadgets at arguably 0 performance increase (which reviews have show in some internet routers) that consideration and feeling it's right or having the right tetris game completely make a difference.

People also have different priority trees and interests (like moral levels / values +/- to yours which may be on their radar or not so much)

I personally think I could unlock any problems or get to the bottom of why if any person would give me the time (not forever but logically going through it so that they say themselves why they don't want to go to Linux from Windows or what ever the case it)

Feel free to add your cases here where you recommend and they don't take you up on it.
Do remember every hand and person is different - I once saw an able axeman say to a beginner "no do it just like this" and I had to explain on the spot, this persons hand and yours are different, the tools weight and your experience in chopping the wood like that is not the stage their at. Axe man I think realised that 1sec suggestion and job he could do is just different from others or needs better instruction / practice.. especially for beginners.
