Mastodon links withOUT YouTube Advertising?

Alternative links auto-added or just something more than just funnelling to google / youtube?... (this is main question regardless for now of implementation)

Could be a link comes under any commercial like this video url added to youtube.com url

Le$$ Adverts / Tracking being sent from Mastodon... having alternative links / helping funnel to better open source front ends?

@freeschool nah, if YouTube is the source I want the source. I'll work around the issues you describe myself.

Ok and... What about optional links? (so you will have both)

Or a switch in the Mastodon preferences (for those that want to enable feature to support additional or alternative links?)

@freeschool yeah, I guess if you had a switch that created an additional link, not overwriting links that could be nice. I think these things are often fragile and get messy really quickly though.

On my android phone you can give URLs preferred apps to open as default so this option already exists in the operating system and doesn't need to be reimplement in mastodon/mastodon-client. On desktop copying and pasting links between different programs / tabs / windows is less of a faff so I don't automate it.

I see that making the default thing less evil is a step in the right direction, maybe lots of people don't know it's an option even, but it kind of gives a none Google veneer to something that's not that great. Polished turds and all that.

@az *** Exactly *** Mastodon has opportunity to Educate it's users in the right direction *and* even offer further embedded FOSS switches on/off or defaults to at least show what to consider as part of it's existence and general alignment... (good-practices and hints inside it)

Polished turds?! hehe ^_^
