Not heating here yet... made excuse to cook and imagine it warms up place and eat hot food instead...
which also I was not doing (cooking half a week of food) but as it gets colder I step up the warming of food and then warming of place...

@freeschool Your heating is broken? Ours (as well as hot water) was broken last week, too. They needed to buy a part to repair it that wasn't delivered yet 🤷

@blueplanetslittlehelper I'm just saving energy right now...
I have the wood but it will go longer if I wait a bit...

I gave up on gas heating.

For story about gas heating read on... otherwise no need.

My reasons why not gas
- needs expensive boilers which are highly efficient **IF** they work and the moment they don't it's VERY expensive for parts
- expensive for gas engineer oer hour (can buy new heating system instead!) and they have to come, spend time
- AND you pay for parts / new boiler sometimes .
- you can't really legally touch the gas yourself also and is a bit of a danger
- I also think the energy companies regularly pump up prices and another trap...

but what to do in the city?

OLDER STORY
So when I did have gas / "central heating" and it broke I had to cal a person for 20mins here and there and realised quickly NA!

Instead I just got electric water boiler from ebay - like a big tea urn with a big coil (exactly like your kettle but bigger) and it was like 50 + 10 pounds for extra coil element! So a big kettle which in the end I think saves a lot of hassle and complicated expensive possibilities. Took 40 mins to boil big bath very hot (I guess I could have attached a pipe for showering but it already was ok for instant fix...

I put this boiler / almost cylinder shape in the bathroom and put the extension outside so it doesn't get wet.

Closed off the gas and the boiler just stayed there.
Peace of mind.
No gas company bills (electricity already had), no parts, no gas man to pay etc...

I don't have hot water all the time here now anyway (that was back in the day),,, I boil / cook it or just use cold almost all of the time.

In winter stove is always on sp hot water is always sitting on the stove boiling using a pot (again like before!) or stainless steel kettle which boil from contact and heat from stove.
