How about sending message by phone and then hopping onto Jitsi address - quite simple and phone plays it part (for simply alert and "now?" / and is cheap) and then internet plays it's part (for video calls free / and is simple )
Would that not work?
@Fu I would guess at least some % of grandmas would try it... but yes I agree the whole interaction with computer, phone, etc... but being cheaper I know people can go to many lengths if they see how much they can save (or if there is no other way = more motivated).
@freeschool I'm specifically speaking of my mother. When it comes to gratis, our previous solution was great, Google Hangouts, but then Google went and f'd it up so now there are two seperate apps, Google Chat and Google Meet, which are just bad versions of XMPP/Jabber & Jit.si, and I don't have the Jetsons video call feature
