@gme Great - not one to push but seems quite simple or simplified to leave it there... without working out the rest a bit (which I think is far-weighted the other way, though yes I can't get over the money think but I can accept curbing it). Just how you balance all the things I mention and not have it short, simple / black, white would help sort this one out a bit and I think it is a honorable and worthy to work out..

Regardless I think it's up to the creator to decide how they want to be compensated. Some choose to publish their work on Patreon and prefer to be compensated directly by their subscribers. Others prefer YouTube and prefer to be compensated by YouTube in exchange for showing ads.

It's not up to us, the viewer, to second-guess or circumvent the choices that a creator has made.

I respect that there are a ton of privacy concerns with YouTube. I personally hate YouTube, but then I only have two choices.

I can choose to view the content on YouTube since the creator has chosen to publish their work there.

Or I can choose not to view the content.

Anything else results in circumventing the creators' choice and venue to be paid and not only is that morally wrong, but it's criminal in many jurisdictions as well.

The fact that content is easily circumvented is no excuse to circumvent the content.

Think about this.

An open source developer chooses to release his code under GPL. Of course the GPL has stipulations attached to it that if you modify the code you have to publish your modifications and if you bundle the code in with another product then you have to make the original source code publicly available.

Many of the same people that go all militant against a company for not abiding by the terms of the GPL when they produce a product have no problems circumventing YouTube's ads.

Talk about being hypocritical! Hello, pot? Meet Mr. Kettle.

Demanding people abide by and follow the GPL is no different than abiding by the terms of any other content someone wishes to view or download.

On the other hand, you have creators (and I am one of them) that freely chooses to release my content under a Creative Commons license. (CC-BY-SA for me.) But that's **my choice**. I'm explicitly *choosing* to publish my works under a Creative Commons license.

But my writing isn't my only and sole source of income.

@gme Agree the publisher has chosen... and as I see it, in-turn you pushing their links and where it gets us is also a matter so while you hate it etc perhaps you go for other things as higher preference.
I think I'm feeding myself here but as a ranking or ladder list the action speaks for itself. You hate but use. You think it worthy or will go far with pennies or maybe don't see any other way to get paid so it's easier... again I respect wherever you line is...

So when I saw on your profile saying no bullshit I thought I'd ask- the GPL example or circumvention (not sure of this term but Google YouTube now those other things exist and would shut it down I assume or even don't mind),

So other than the bit in between as an 'ok example' but mixing it, I think I'm able to leave it there but see what you're priorities are... (and not saying you're totally out in other ways but yes I'd like not to use things that hook other things in and so giving that weight I do call 'bullshit' a little here or need schooling how much good it does)

maybe about "hate" <--- people have said hate before so good to maybe increment this meaning for me as when they paste the link it seems 'bullshit' or ironic about that, but I guess the video is the candy somewhat at the end and not the end of the world but the slow decline...

My “I have little tolerance for bullshit” is more along the lines of, “Life is too short to put up with this, that, and the other.”

If somebody is being a dick I’m more inclined to just block and move-on.

But I do draw the line on a couple of things though: People that deny the moon landing. People that think September 11th was orchestrated by the United States Government. People that think COVID-19 was a hoax and not a big deal. People the think the Earth is flat. People that think the Earth is only 6,000 years old. People that still swear Donald Trump won the 2020 Election or that the 2020 US Election was rigged… Actual fascists and neo-Nazis… Racists… Scientologists… Mormons… People that don’t believe in trans rights or that trans lives matter…

Yeah. I have no time for any of those people. I won’t even engage with people like that. You’re blocked, and I move on.

No debate. I don’t want to hear any explanation. I don’t want to hear anything.

I only have 1440 minutes in each day and I need to make them count. I literally can’t afford to waste any time or energy on bullshit.

I mostly speak to many types if it's easy / sincere more than what they say because they )probably everyone) has the key ingredient to why they think about it like that (if you as listener might want to seek out those reasons,,, but it's not for everyone).
Also the bullshit, people can learn more but we have to have better examples or methods probably ;)
A hard one is talking to engineer-types and advising them not to make anything more if your construct is the most abusive and flawed (everyone wants to build I guess or not be bored thinking things right from scratch again).
