To keep in touch w/family at a protest, couple more options to try: Session / Briar.

Briar is unique: ability to use both Tor, and bluetooth/wifi for p2p (in case internet goes down).

Both use onion routing for internet (Briar: Tor, Session: Lokinet)

@RTP
Theoretically would be awesome if people could get a 1 to 1 walkthrough (if people feel it's complicated) or someone they can text-walkthrough on Mastodon :)
Just anyone human (from project or not) though I don't need help right now... just thoughts about the idea of human assistance?

@freeschool I think it's a good idea really.

I think sometimes these protests are so spontaneous, that becomes more of a challenge to do, without having this type of thing set up in advance.

For example: internet is being cut (then it is too late for long distance communication for most ppl).

It's a reason I recommended Briar - bluetooth/wifi can work without internet encrypted messaging.

But unfortunately that kind of help w/need to be setup in advance w/internet being cut. 😕

@RTP yeah...or also somewhere they can pass on the package and instructions like usb / wifi-to-wifi / dial up modem

This way transfer the package without internet or as ad-hoc / copy ... and then once 1 person gets it they can copy to others on the train or hard disk borrowed at a cafe etc.
